County Matches 2026

If you would like to play for the County this year, we have the following Matches that you can apply for by clicking on the links

(or if you don`t like the forms then email selectors@manchesterbridge.org.uk ) :

Sunday 28th June: F2F Friendly at Bolton Bridge Club vs LancashireLink

We need 6 pairs for our Open team and 6 pairs for a Jack-High team (+ reserves for each).

Until other counties wish to play us F2F, this is the ONLY F2F match that we currently have,

so please apply if you prefer F2F bridge and you are available.

If your NGS rating is between 51.00 (say) and 56.99, why not give it a go and apply for our Jack-High team

who will play against a similarly-rated Lancashire team?

Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July RealBridge: Presidents Cup   Link

This is a Team-of-8 competition online over a whole weekend, but we can select a squad of up to 16 different players

so if you are available for just one day that is of interest to us.

Last year, the other counties were Merseyside/Cheshire, Yorkshire, North East, Hampshire/IoW, London and Scotland.

Saturday 11th July, 15th August, 12th September, 17th October RealBridge: Northern Bridge League  Link

We intend to enter a team in Division A, a team in Division B, and a team in Division C.

On each of the 4 Saturdays, we will need 4 pairs for Division A, 4 pairs for Division B, and 4 pairs for Division C

(plus a few Reserves in case of illness etc).

Last year. the Divisions included other teams from

Division A: Lancashire, Scotland, Merseyside/Cheshire, Yorkshire, Cumbria

Division B: Lancashire, Scotland, Yorkshire, North East, Westmorland

Division C: Lancashire, Merseyside/Cheshire, Yorkshire, Cumbria/Westmorland

From 2025, there are separate Face-to-Face and Online Leagues. Please enter whichever League is appropriate for your team`s circumstances.

Teams or individual players might wish to play in BOTH Leagues, but beware of the total number of matches that you might need to arrange and play.

Manchester League - Matches predominantly played Face-to-Face. Runs from October-May. Registration by October 15th 2025  HERE

Manchester Online League - Matches predominantly played Online (on BBO by default). Runs from October-May. Registration by October 15th 2025  HERE

Higson Cup & Plate - This is a handicapped event with every team playing at least two 24-board qualification matches in Groups. These are by default Face-to-Face (unless both teams agree to play online). About 2/3rds of the entered teams will reach Face-to-Face Multiple Team Cup and Plate finals held on a Sunday next April (probably April 26th 2026) at a MCBA club. Registration by October 15th 2025 HERE

To enter the same team into a League and the Higson Cup, you can use checkboxes on the League entry form without doing a Higson Cup form as well.

Goldstone Trophy - This is the County's major knockout event and is Green Pointed. Early rounds are 24 boards, then later rounds are 32 boards. Matches up to the final are by default online unless both captains agree to play Face to Face. The final will be Face to Face at a MCBA club with spectators encouraged.  Members with primary allegiance to a different county must not enter this event, but should be able to play in the equivalent event of their other county.  Registration closes when 16 teams have entered (or on October 15th) for 2025-26 HERE
