Welcome to Malton Bridge Club
Malton Bridge Club Closure

It has been decided that the session on Wednesday March 18th will NOT now take place.

The club will be closed in accordance with national guidelines until further notice.  A decision will be made soon on the status of the unfinished competitions.

The club extends its best wishes for the health and safety of its members until its functioning can resume.

Thursday 19th March - Updated

Please note that there will NOT be a Thursday afternoon session on this date.  In accordance with government guidelines, sessions have been suspended for the time being.  We hope to resume before too long, perhaps in October.

Road Works - Wednesday 4th March

The road through Old Malton is having pot-holes repaired this coming Wednesday evening, starting at 7 p.m.  Members are asked not to park on the road on this occasion but to use a side-street, the Royal Oak or the car-park opposite it, and it is recommended that they arrive before 7.00 if possible.  If the way is barred, explaining the need to be at the Community Centre should allow entry.

Happy New Year!

The club's programme continues in 2020 from Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th January.  The first two Wednesdays are the final seesions of the Championship Pairs and Positional Pairs respectively.

These are followed by two consecutive sessions of Handicap Teams, on 22nd and 29th January.  All members, especially those who have joined recently, are encouraged to take part in this form of competition, a change from the usual weekly duplicate pairs.  To indicate availablitiy, sign up at the club or contact the Secretary.

Malton Bridge Club is a small, friendly club with, currently, fewer than 50 members.  The membership spans the full range of experience and expertise, all enjoying and benefitting from playing together in a congenial atmosphere.

There are two distinct parts to the club’s playing season.  From October to early May on Wednesday evenings there is a programme of four different seven-session pairs competitions and one two-session teams-of-four competition, though non-qualifying or visiting pairs are also very welcome to attend.  Over the same period there are also Thursday afternoon sessions for players to enjoy a more relaxed, social game, with help and advice available and a partner guaranteed.

From May to September the club is only open on Wednesday evenings, with a ‘host’ system operating so that partners do not need to be pre-arranged.  In this period many members play with a variety of different partners, providing a good opportunity for experience to be shared, systems to be developed and new partnerships to be formed.  Results are handicapped and an individual winner is declared at the end but there is no strong competitive element and this is a time when many Thursday afternoon players gain the confidence to compete on Wednesdays.

The club enters two teams-of-eight in the Yorkshire League and organises two open events: a multiple teams event played in June for the Malton Cup and a pairs competition in November, restricted to non-expert pairs, for the Ryedale Cup.
