The DNR Committee is pleased to report that all Regional Competitions for the current year have taken place very successfully on BBO. It is great to see so many players who have adapted to the Virtual Bridge world.
As you know, the culmination of the 2019/2020 Kirwans League coincided with the start of the Covid 19 Pandemic and due to prevailing conditions at the time, this event was not finalised. The DNR committee has decided not to finalise this event. We hope that you realise the situation was outside of our control and we would like to thank all those clubs and teams that supported the event. The funds from the League for that season will be donated to a charity, yet to be decided.
This year the DNR is going to run a Kirwans Team Gala Event. This is a once-off event that will be run under the Kirwans banner. It will be run over 4 Saturdays in May, as follows:
Date: Grade: Closing Date: Co-Ordinator:
May 8th Intermediate A’s Fri 23rd April Ria Malone 086-8248549
May 15th Intermediate B’s Fri 30th April Rodney O’Hara 087-1165496
May 22nd Masters Fri 7th May Billy Ronan (c/o Mary Breen) 087-6192303
May 29th Novices Fri 14th May Andrew Kinsella 086-2580589
These will be one (1) session events, commencing at 7.30 pm, with a reduced fee of BBO$1 per person.
As with all DNR competitions, as directed by the CBAI, there will be no prizes. However, Master Points will be awarded. The Kirwans Trophy will also be presented to the winning team, all of whose members MUST be representative of the club. In order to ensure this, it is advisable for each team to also have two substitutes. As usual, standby substitutes will be required on the night, who preferably should also be members of the club.
In place of prizes, the DNR plans to organise a Gala Event to celebrate all winners of DNR Regional Events during this difficult time. This will be at a time and place appropriate to Covid restrictions.
Entry is by invitation only. Initially the co-ordinators for each Grade will contact the Team Captains of the last Kirwans competition and invite them to submit the original team. Players may play in the grade which they originally entered, irrespective of any upgrade since.
In addition to the original team/s you, as Club Secretary, may nominate another team/s to represent your club. Team members should be players who were members of the Club and of the correct Grade in September 2019. All must be affiliated CBAI members and registered with BBO.
To nominate a team, or discuss the event, please contact the appropriate co-ordinator. The committee hopes that this event will be as successful as those to date. However, we do rely to a great degree on your support.
