Magnolia Bridge Club Exmouth Constitution
1. The club is known as the Magnolia Bridge Club, and it’s venue is Alexandra Hall, 59 Imperial Road, Exmouth. Founding Members have voting rights without subscription.
2. The club shall be managed by the Committee consisting of SIX members elected annually at the AGM; the six to include the Chair (with a casting vote only), the Hon. Secretary and the Hon Treasurer. The Committee shall have the power to co-opt additional temporary members for any specific purpose.
3.The International Rules of Contract Bridge will govern any dispute or irregularity and the Committee will adjudicate accordingly. Similarly the International Code on Laws of the Duplicate Contract Bridge will apply, as updated annually in the Year Book of the Laws and Ethics Committee of the EBU.
4. The Committee shall have the power to warn, suspend or expel any person who consistently behaves in such a manner as to impair the enjoyment of the other members.
5. The financial year will run from 1st February to 31st January. The Annual General Meeting shall normally be held in April, all members receiving a copy of the Agenda and Accounts two weeks in advance. Any member who has not paid his or her subscription by 1st June will cease to be a member.
6. The club shall operate a bank account and withdrawals shall be made on the signature of the Hon. Treasurer and any one of the other officers. Proper records of financial transactions shall be maintained by the Hon. Treasurer, who shall present a duly audited statement of the accounts each year to the Annual General Meeting. The Auditor to be appointed by the Committee.
7. The Committee shall call a Special General Meeting of the members at such a time as they deem necessary, on any occasion when more than ten members shall request it in writing, the Secretary shall call such a meeting for the discussion of a specific topic.
8. Applicants for membership shall be proposed by one member and seconded by another, both of whom must be members of two years standing. He or she must “play in” over three weeks, must demonstrate a working knowledge of Bridge and must recognise the obligation placed on each and every member to maintain the friendly nature of the Club. Any member of the club is entitled to voice reservations about the application to a member of the committee.
9. Any member may introduce a guest on payment of the standard table rate.
