RE: Biffa Award Application for Replacement of our current floorboards in the main hall and entrance hall and to re decorate internally.
Today the trustees heard from Biffa Award who provides grants as part of the Government’s Landfill Community Fund, and we are pleased to tell you that our application for funding towards the cost of the works above has been approved. We are extremely grateful and thankful to Biffa Award for choosing to support us and this project to help us to ensure that our building can continue to be used by the community for many years to come.
The trustees have been in communication with Nigel Hilliar Painter and Decorator, John Giles of Elysium Woodworking Ltd and Tom Barnes of Vastern Timbers who are our chosen contractors and suppliers. We are pleased to confirm works will commence on Monday 20th July 2026, it will take approximately 5 weeks and we will need a week to get the Scout hut ready for use after the work is complete. This will mean the Scout Hut will be closed to all users during this time and we aim to re-open (if everything goes to plan) on Monday 31st August 2026.
We are also hoping that you will be able to help us with another project we will be doing in conjunction with the works. The trustees felt it would be an amazing opportunity to involve the community with the project by making a simple Time Capsule to be placed under the new floorboards and leave it there to be discovered in many years to come. We would like to invite the community to contribute something small such as a letter, photo, leaflet etc into the capsule. If this is something you would like to get involved in or know anyone from other local community groups that wish to contribute, please get in touch with either Andrew Barnett or myself.
In due course we will communicate details of a ‘works party’ day prior to the works starting in which we will need to prepare the Scout Hut for the works. We will need your help and support on this day to ensure the Scout Hut is ready so the works can start on time.
Thank you for all your continued support and help.
