BEGINNERS’ BRIDGE COURSE
We are starting a new beginners’ course on Thursday, 15th January from 10am until 12pm and the first trial session is free. After that there are two 12-week blocks of informal, friendly sessions, about half an hour of learning something new, followed by playing hands to practise what has been learnt. After that we continue lessons throughout the year on a pay-as-you-go basis. The 12-week block costs £60 and after that it's £5 a week or £3 if you have joined the club.
If you can’t join us on Thursday 15th, you are very welcome to come when you can and still have the first session free, then pay for the rest of the course depending on the number of weeks left.
You will be encouraged to buy the beginners’ ‘Red Book’ by the English Bridge Union which is invaluable alongside our lessons.
By the end of the year, you will have enough knowledge to play in normal duplicate sessions at the club or, if you prefer, you can attend our relaxed Improvers’ sessions on a Wednesday afternoon where there is some tuition and you can play bridge and ask experienced volunteers for any help you may need.
Our 2025 group of 13 beginners finished their course in December with a Christmas party and a round of friendly duplicate bridge with prizes. Their testimonials below indicate how much they enjoyed the course and the added benefits of doing the course.
'I can highly recommend the beginners bridge course I loved it! The teachers were fantastic and the handouts each week really helped to remember all of the bidding and card play necessary for bridge. It has been a great way to sharpen up my memory, have some fun every week and meet a new group of lovely friends. If you are thinking about it I’d recommend giving it a try you won’t regret it I’m sure. Have fun!' Julie
'I have really enjoyed the course. The year has flown by. The teaching has been excellent and the atmosphere friendly. I now feel confident to join in the club sessions and as a fellow member said to me - "you now have a friend for life". Highly recommended.' Francis
Any current improvers or returning players are welcome to attend lessons on topics they feel might be helpful, probably after the first two blocks of lessons; they would pay normal table money as a member or £5 as a non-member.
