| In Memoriam - John Probst |
We are very sad to announce the death of John Probst at the age of 78 on 17th September after a long illness. A long-term London member, John was a member of the London County Committee and chair of the London Tournament Committee from 1979-1981 and was chief TD for the county for many years. As well as directing, John taught bridge and he was instrumental in founding the Woodberry Bridge Club in 1981 as somewhere for his bridge students to play. The club has since gone from strength to strength as a major contributor to the London bridge scene.
John was a colourful character whose ebullient personality lit up the London bridge scene for a long time. Sadly, he had a severe stroke some twenty years ago, which caused him to lose most of his sight. He struggled to continue to play bridge for some time afterwards, but eventually had to give up.
Our heartfelt condolences go all his family and his many friends.

The event attracted 8 tables and was greatly enjoyed by all players, thanks to the organiser Chris Duckworth and the TD Dave Muller. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed as usual. The evening ended with a glass of wine and a discussion of some of the more interesting hands with expert comments from Brian Callaghan.
