LINLITHGOW CONTRACT BRIDGE CLUB
CONSTITUTION – REVISED November 2012

NAME
The Club, called Linlithgow Contract Bridge Club, will be affiliated to
the Scottish Bridge Union (S.B.U.),
Eastern District and any other bodies the Committee considers necessary.
AIMS
The Club aims to promote and further the playing of competitive amateur
contract bridge within the district, strictly and fairly and to as high a
standard as possible.
MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to all who
share the objectives of the Club without regard to age, disability, race,
gender, sexual orientation or religion.
·
Those wishing to become a
member of the Club can do so by contacting our Club Secretary. Contact information is available on our

Applicants are automatically admitted into
membership unless any written objection, stating the reasons, is received by the
Committee. The Committee will consider the
objection and the stated reasons.

Membership will not be refused
without good reason. Applicants refused
membership will be advised, in writing, of the reasons for refusal. Applicants can appeal against refusal by
writing to the Club Secretary, stating the full reasons for appeal. The Club Committee will consider any appeals
and where voting results in a tie, the President has the deciding vote. Appellants will be given written notice of
the outcome of their appeal.

Members are required to pay the Club’s annual subscription and affiliation
fee determined by the S.B.U.
·
Only members may hold office in the Club and vote on matters presented
to the membership.
RULES
·
The
Club is subject to the Rules and Regulations of the S.B.U. and this
Constitution.
·
An appointed Tournament Director will run and
control Club competitions under the appropriate S.B.U. Rules and
Conditions. Disputes arising during play
must be referred to the Tournament Director who will give a ruling or, where
necessary, refer the matter to the Appeals Committee. Rights of appeal from the Tournament
Director’s decision may be allowed to the Appeals Committee.

The Appeals Committee will consist of 2
Committee members and a Tournament Director not involved in the original
ruling. Their decision on any issue is
final. If this includes taking
disciplinary action against a player or players, the Appeals Committee will
make a recommendation to the General Committee for acceptance.

Where an appeal is lodged against a previous
decision made by a member of the Appeals Committee, that official will forfeit
all voting rights.
·
Where one member of the Appeals Committee is
unavailable, the
remaining two members have the power to appoint a further member of the General
Committee on a temporary basis.
COMMITTEE
·
The Club will be controlled by a Committee
consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Past President
and three other Members. Any two offices
may be combined and the Committee has the power to appoint up to two other
members for special duties.

The Office of President and Vice-President will
be held for a maximum period of two years.
The remaining Office-Bearers will be selected annually but may hold
office for more than one year.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
AND LEVIES
These will be decided at an Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) and may only
be altered either at the following A.G.M. or at a Special General Meeting where a
vote for alteration must be carried by a two-thirds majority.
TEAM SELECTION
Selection of Teams to play in Representative and League Matches will be
left to the discretion of the Committee.
CLUB BUSINESS
The Club’s affairs will be conducted by the Committee who will meet at
least three times each year. The
Committee has the following powers:

To control the Club’s finances, subject always
to direction from a General Meeting of the Club.
·
To promote, sponsor, run and make rules for
competitions limited to the Club Members.
·
To run heats and competitions promoted by the S.B.U. under their appropriate Rules and
Conditions. Guests can play in any
National Competition providing at least fifty per cent of the Pair or Team are
members of the Club – always subject to the Committee’s approval.
·
To take appropriate disciplinary action in
controlling the affairs of the Club.
This may include,
if necessary, a
fixed-period suspension or expulsion of Club Members.
·
To refer disputes to the sub-committee known as
the Appeals Committee.
MEETINGS
·
Annual General Meetings will be held in
April or May of each year.
·
Special General Meetings can be held at
any time, as long as a copy of the request (stating the reason for the Meeting), is given to each Club
Member not less than 14 days prior to the date of the meeting.
QUORUMS
·
At all General Meetings – 20 members.
·
At all Committee Meetings – 5 members.
Each
Club Member will be given a copy of this Constitution and will be bound by
these conditions.
No clause or part of this Constitution may be
altered except by the consent of a two-thirds majority
of those voting at a General Meeting of the
Club.
