February 27, 2026 - Joel Addison, who recently turned age 85, had been doing perfectly fine, health wise.  Joel played bridge on Friday, Feb. 27, and after leaving the club later that day, he suffered a severe brain seizure which put him in a frozen coma state.  EMTs were called and Joel was transported immediately by ambulance to Gulf Coast Hospital.  The doctors at Gulf Coast could not do much for Joel and transferred him to the Lee Memorial Hospice in North Fort Myers.  Plans are currently underway to transfer Joel to a skilled nursing facility as soon as one is identified!  This information was obtained from Brenda Miller on March 11, 2026.

February 19, 2026 - Robin Spriggle, age 71, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 19.  Her children are holding a Celebration of Life in her honor on Monday March 30, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at LYNQ Restaurant, 16230 Summerlin Road.  Gilda Reynolds has placed a flyer with all details on the bridge club's magnetic bulletin board.  Gilda also has placed a sign up sheet on the side table for members to RSVP if they plan to attend, and is coordinating details with Robin's daughter.

Manon Ross -  Lynn Harvey, recently learned that Manon, who had returned to her beloved Kentucky several years ago, passed away in September, 2025 from complications due to COPD lung issues.  Lynn was a neighbor to Manon here in Fort Myers at Lexington Country Club.  Manon's daughter was at Lexington this past weekend (3/7/26) and informed Lynn of this very sad news.  Her daughter shared that Manon truly loved playing bridge with all of us at Lee County Bridge Association.

Subject:  Update on Lottie Mae Massengill

Lottie Mae has been in/out of the hospital about ten times since May 2025 and twice in rehab facilities with various medical issues, including a bad bout of pneumonia.

In the middle of September, Lottie Mae was sitting on the sofa in the community room watching TV at her Brookdale Independent Living Facility.  She fell asleep and somehow slipped off and fell on the floor breaking numbers L4 / L5 lumbars in her back and also skinned and tore large areas on both her arm and leg.  An ambulance was called and she was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.  Doctors performed corrective back surgery and after a week in the hospital, she was transferred to two separate rehab facilities.

Her son, Scott Massengill, is taking very good care of his Mother, and has now transferred her to an independent facility, which is only seven miles from his home so he can be there within 15 minutes.  Scott said the facility is only 9 years old but he described it as being like the "Taj Mahal" compared to the Brookdale and the Ambassador Health Care at College Park.

Scott said that Lottie Mae was having a few memory issues but other than that, she is doing well.  I spoke to Lottie Mae myself on the 30th, and she had no idea where she was living, but she described it as lovely, and she was starting to get acclimated and making new friends.  Lottie is now using a walker as she is a bit frail, but Scott got her a unit on the first floor so she does not have to contend with elevators.  Lottie Mae turned 86 in August 2025.

Lottie Mae would welcome cards, phone calls, or even a visit from you.
