MANCHESTER CONGRESS 2026

3rd & 4th January 2026

Back face to face and once again organised by Oliver Cowan on behalf of and in partnership with the MCBA, at the Airport Hotel Manchester – Hotel and Spa.  This venue provides an excellent, friendly setting for this congress and has free parking for players with easy access to the local town centre with lots of nice restaurant and bar options for after bridge finishes each evening.

Saturday 3rd January – Championship Pairs (11:00-18:00)

Sunday 4th January – Swiss Teams (11:00-18:00)

Entry fees per £30 per player for 1 day or £55 if playing 2 days and the entry fee includes tea/coffee/biscuits/sweets throughout. There will also be a prize fund.

Players can order lunch/sandwiches each day on arrival to be served in the break. If you bring your own food, this must NOT be consumed in public areas of the hotel.

Also on Sunday 4th January 14:00-17:30 will be the Kevin Comrie Cup restricted to players no higher than a 9 NGS, with an entry fee of £15 per player.

Lancs v Cumbria 28 Sep 2025

The annual Lancs v Cumbria match was held at Lancaster BC on Sunday 28th Sep 2025. There were 10 pairs on each side playing 10 x 4 board matches. In a close game, Lancs ran out winners by 259 to 241 VPs.  Best Ximps from Babs Matthews and John Farmer with Mike & Sally Ann Rothwell second. Full results at  Lancs v Cumbria Results

Cumbria Match 10Sep2023

The annual Lancashire v Cumbria match took place on Sunday 10th September 2023 at Poulton BC. The final score was Lancashire 260 Imps Cumbria 177 Imps so Lancashire won by 83 Imps. Cumbria Match 2019

Congratulations to the Lancashire Team who beat the Cumbria Team by 232 Imps in the annual encounter on 11 Aug 2019. Cumbria Match 2017

Cumbria beat Lancashire by 96 Imps in the annual match for the Pearse McNamara Trophy played on 13 Aug 2017 at Lytham BC. Full details in the results section.

Cumbria Match 2016

The annual Lancashire v Cumbria match took place on Sunday 10th July at Barrow Bridge Club with Lancashire winning by 116 Imps. This was a very friendly encounter, well run by Ken Johnson with an excellent meal courtesy of the Barrow Club staff. Cumbria Match 2015

The annual Lancs v Cumbria match was held at Lytham Bridge Club on 12h July 2015. Lancs were winning by 59 Imps at halftime, but this was overturned in the second half and Cumbria won the match by 18 Imps. As always the food was excellent, and Mike Rothwell ran the event with his usual efficiency. The Captains David Pendlebury and Trevor Ward both spoke of the longstanding friendly nature of the fixture over many years.

Cumbria Match 2014

Lancashire won the annual County match against Cumbria at Barrow on 13 July 2014 by around 150 Imps. Cumbria were in the lead early on, but Lancashire had a slender lead (+14) by half time. After being treated to an excellent buffet by the Barrow Ladies, the Lancashire players were sufficiently revived to win the second half comfortably. The match was run under Ken Johnson's excellent direction and both captains (Dave Pendlebury and Trevor Ward) commented on the friendly manner in which the match was played by the two Counties.
