MANCHESTER CONGRESS 2026

3rd & 4th January 2026

Airport Hotel Manchester, Altrincham Road, Wilmslow SK9 4LR

Back face to face and once again organised by Oliver Cowan on behalf of and in partnership with the MCBA, at the Airport Hotel Manchester – Hotel and Spa.  This venue provides an excellent, friendly setting for this congress and has free parking for players with easy access to the local town centre with lots of nice restaurant and bar options for after bridge finishes each evening.

Saturday 3rd January – Championship Pairs (11:00-18:00)

Sunday 4th January – Swiss Teams (11:00-18:00)

Entry fees per £30 per player for 1 day or £55 if playing 2 days and the entry fee includes tea/coffee/biscuits/sweets throughout. There will also be a prize fund.

Players can order lunch/sandwiches each day on arrival to be served in the break. If you bring your own food, this must NOT be consumed in public areas of the hotel.

Also on Sunday 4th January 14:00-17:30 will be the Kevin Comrie Cup restricted to players no higher than a 9 NGS, with an entry fee of £15 per player.

Tollemache Qualifier 2021

The Lancashire team failed to qualify for the Tollemache Final finishing 8th out of the 16 teams in its section in the Qualifier on RealBridge this weekend 14 November 2021. The team was Jeff Smith & Jackie Pye, Ross Shine & Stuart McPhee, Don Hilton & Andrew Petrie, Jeff & Ann Wilkins, Bill Alston & Colin Mitchell and Mike Tomlinson & Linda Smith. The best pair was Bill and Colin who were in top 30 pairs out of the 172 pairs. Full results available from the EBU site.

Tollemache Qualifier 2019
Lancashire failed to qualify finishing in 5th place out of 9 teams in the Tollemache Qualifier held at Daventry on 16-17th November 2019. The team was J Smith/J Pye, N & S Woodcock, C Croswell/D Williams, P Hepworth/R Bentley, B Loveridge/M RTomlinson. Nick & Sue Woodcock had the best CrossImp score in the team, with J Smith/J Pye also positive on CrossImps. Full results are on the EBU web site.
Tollemache Qualifier 2018

The Lancashire team failed to qualify for the Tollemache Final in the qualifier held at Daventry over the weekend. Nick/Sue Woodcock were the only pair with a positive CrossImp score at the end. Full results available on the EBU website.

Tollemache Final 2018

The Tollemache Final was held at the Mercure Hotel Coventry over the 10-11 Feb 2018 weekend. Kent won the event with Lancashire team finishing 5th of the 8 teams.The team was in contention on Sunday but sadly did not finish strongly and the heart of the team was possibly affected by a harsh adverse ruling against one pair in the last match on Saturday against Manchester. The team was Croswell/Willams, Barnes/Norris, Smith/Pye, Woodcocks and Brearley/Shine with Croswell/Williams carding the best Cross Imp performance over the weekend.

Tollemache Qualifier 2017

Well done to the Lancashire team of Jeff Smith & Jackie Pye, Nick & Sue Woodcock, John Brearley & Ross Shine, Paul Hepworth & Rick Bentley, Cros Croswell & Degsy Williams who finished second in their group in the Tollemache Qualifier at Sollihull over the weekend of 18th-19th November 2017. They qualified for the final on February 10/11 - venue to be confirmed. The team was leading for much of the competition but just slipped a little then recovered with a strong finish. Tollemache Qualifier 2016

Lancashire team just failed to qualify for the final  on a split tie with Manchester in the Inter county teams of eight on 19-20th Nov 2016 in Birmingham.  The team of Jeff Smith, Jackie Pye, Paul Hepworth, Rick Bentley, Nick & Sue Woodcock, Derek Williams, Cros Croswell, John Brearley and Ross Shine represented Lancashire though due to a family illness, Derek had to to go home after two sets on the Sunday. Paul & Rick were the leading pair on the CrossImps ranking. Full results on the  EBU site

Tollemache Qualifier 2015

The team finished a respectable 4th out of the 9 teams in the Tollemache Qualifier held at Birmingham Airport Hotel at the weekend on 21/22 November 2015. The team was J.Brearley/R Shine, J Smith/J Pye, B Alston/C Mitchell, P Hepworth/R Bentley, N & S Woodcock. Further details available on the EBU site.

Tollemache Final 2015

Lancashire finished 6th out of the 8 teams in the Tollemache Final held at the Park Inn, West Brom on 14/15 February 2015. The team won 3, drew 1 and lost 3 of its 7 matches. Full results available on the EBU site. 

Tollemache Qualifier 2014

Well done to the Lancashire Team that played in the Tollemache Qualifier held at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham over the 22/23 November 2014. The team finished second to Kent in Group B and thus qualifies for the Final. The Team was A.Barnes/S Norris, B Alston/C Mitchell, P Hepworth/R Bentley, J Smith/J Pye and J Brearley/R Shine. Tollemache Qualifier 2013

Lancashire's team finished a creditable 4th in their 9 team Tollemache Qualifier Group at Daventry this weekend on 24/25 November 2013 winning 4 matches and narrowly losing 3 matches. The team was Austin Barnes & Stuart Norris, Jeff Smith & Andrew Petrie, Paul Hepworth & Rick Bentley and Nick & Sue Woodcock.
