Lancashire has a bridge club in most major towns, with many having a host system to ensure visitors can get a game. Contact details, club times, beginners, intermediate classes are on the Clubs page though you should check before attending a new club. This website has details of forthcoming competitions and results. Membership of an affiliated Lancashire club  entitles you to play in Lancashire competitions, be eligible for Lancashire County Teams, and attend all Lancashire Council Meetings. The annual Manchester Congress took place last weekend with many Lancashire players involved. There were 66 pairs and 33 teams. Cros Croswell & Degsy Williams were in the prizes finishing 8th while John & Catherine Ashworth won the nonexpert prize finishing 10th.  Jeff Smith with Alan Mould, John Holland & Paul Hackett won the Championship Teams.

Preston Blue Pointed Teams 14Jan 2018

The Preston Blue Pointed Teams was held in the new spacious comfortable premises at Preston on Sunday 14 January. There were 14 teams and the winners were Jeff Smith/jackie Pye, Bernard & Rhona Goldenfield, second Bill Alston/Colin Mitchell, Andrew & Veronica Petrie. Full results at Preston Bridge Club site

Manchester GP Swiss Pairs 3rd March 2018

The Manchester GP Swiss Pairs at Altrincham BC on Sat 3rd March 2018 attracted 48 pairs. The event was very ably run by Rob Dixon and Joan Lewis. Well done to Bill Carr and Sue Woodcock who won the event, and Nick Woodcock and Sue Fjortoft who finished 3rd after narrowly losing to Bill and Sue in the last round! Cumbria GP Swiss Teams

Congratulations to the team of Sue Woodcock & Stuart Clarke, Nick Woodcock & Sue Fjortoft who won the Cumbria Congress Teams on 11 March 2018 in a field of 37 teams. Sue & Stuart also finished 2nd in the Consolation Pairs Final, while Bill Carr and Michael Fay finished 5th in the Championship Pairs Final.

For the second successive year, Jeff Smith along with Dave Barton, Irving & Joy Blakey won the ManchesterHigson Cup on the 29th april 2018.

John Armstrong Swiss Pairs 20 May 2018 at Deva

Twenty six pairs competed at Deva in Merseyside's John Armstrong Green Point Swiss on Sunday 20th May.  Mike Tomlinson and Bob Loveridge finished in second place behind Rodney Lighton and John Currie.  Full results are on the Deva web site.

Yorkshire Congress 2-3 June 2018

Congratulations to Don Hilton and brother Richard Hilton who won the Yorkshire Congress Championship Pairs event.They also won the Teams Consolation event playing with I Crockatt & J Levesley

The annual Michelle Brunner Charity Memorial in aid of Christies and St Anns Hospice was held on 21st July 2018 and raised around £1800. The winners on the day were Jeff Smith, Jackie Pye, John Holland & Alan Mould. There were 16 teams taking part. Full results on Manchester Bridge Club website

There was a full house at Altrincham for the Manchester Green Point Teams on Sunday 22nd July, including visitors from the US and Australia.  The winners were the Southport team of Roger Allison, Peter Richmond, Bill & Liz Wattleworth who won their last two matches against illustrious opposition to finish ahead of Bernard & Rhona Goldenfield, Joy & Irving Blakey, with Karen McCallum, Axel Johannsson, Alan Mould and Michael Newman third. East Lancashire Bridge League

The East Lancs Bridge League season recommences at the end of August and welcomes any new team to enter the League. It currently has two Divisions with about 5 teams in each so each team plays 4 matches in the season. Players not affiliated to the EBU are still eligible to enter the League. There is an associated optional Cup knockout competition (Sarker Cup).

On Saturday 11th August Preston Bridge Club hosted the County Club Challenge. This is a new event designed for players with an NGS of 10 or below. It was a  great success everyone had a good time and an enjoyable game of bridge. The winners were Lynda Grundy and Sheila Nolan from Oakfield Bridge Club. Full results on our results page.

 

Cumbria/Westmorland Congress 15/16 Sep 2018

The annual Cumbria/Westmoreland Congress was held on the 15-16 September 2018 at the Castle Green Hotel. The teams was won by Mike Tomlinson & Bob Loveridge, Jeff & AnnWilkins (pictured Jeff,Mike,Ann,Bob). John & Judy Brearley finished second in the Swiss Pairs. Full results on Cumbria website.

Dimmie Fleming Award - Jacqueline Wright
We are delighted to announce the succesful acceptance of Jacqueline Wright for a Dimmie Fleming Award. This award is for people who have retired from an official role but have worked hard and tirelessly in the promotion of bridge and made a significant contribution. Jacqueline was the Lancashire County Tournament Secretary for many many years aand with some health problems only stepped down from the role this year.

The awards will be presneted at the EBU AGM in London on Wednesday 28th November or a suitable venue of the recipients choice by a local official at a bridge club, a County AGM meeting or an EBU congress/competition.

Lytham Rose Bowl Sunday 2nd December 2018 1:30pm

The Lytham Rose Bowl will take place on Sunday 2nd December 2018 at 1:30pm. This is a two-session LCBA all-play-all pairs event. The entry fee is £20 per person which includes a meal provided at half time.
