A hard fought match against a steady team saw Lancaster come out on top 13 - 7. After three defeats this was a welcome first victory.

much rearranged fixture was finally played in February. We managed a very
creditable 14 - 6 victory, thanks in no small part to the staunch efforts of 3
players who normally turn out for the B team - Audrey Ellis, Sue Winder
& Alan Paylor.

It will be a surprise to everybody that it was my first match ever as captain (other than as a deputy) of any league team, despite my many years of playing. Selection was made awkward due to several experienced players not being available, and the fact that two inexperienced pairs stood up to the plate, and accounted very well for themselves, only adds to my pride at this result. Thank you Jean, Tony, Richard and Don.
The full team was:-

Jean Higham & Tony Saville
Richard Willey & Don McGowan

Earlier results from other matches meant that we could not be promoted (or relegated), but the outcome of our final match could see us finishing 3rd, 4th or 5th out of the eight teams in Division 2.As we arrived at Poulton, I immediately noticed that they were fielding probably their strongest team (I played with several of them some years ago in Division 1, but normally only as a reserve). Their pairs were playing systems which were more likely to be seen in Division 1 or in larger competitions, and we occasionally found difficulty counteracting these. To be fair, their two stronger pairs played very well against us, with their other pairs about even. We lost both halves to record a disappointing 17-3 loss.
The team was:-
Steve Raine & Liam AspdenDavid Lowe & Barbara BruceSue Winder & Audrey Ellis Harry Smith & Dorothy Smith
This meant we finished 5th, but well clear of the 3 lower teams. Winning 4 matches and losing 3 was a satisfactory performance for the season. Thank you to all who participated.
Steve Raine (Team Captain)

The C team had a good final win of 17-3 away against Blackburn D.
Mainly competitive part scores but interesting all the same. We were +38 in the first half and gained another +26 in the second half giving us +64 IMPS overall. Both sets of 4 had plus scores.
We now have an excellent chance of promotion back to Division 3.
Well done to all the team:
