Bronze Rankings
The SBU runs a great variety of tournaments, with trophies, national master points and cash sums up for grabs. Since most members of the SBU are below the rank of Regional Master, these players are catered for with "Bronze" level prizes — either as prizes awarded as part of a wider national event, or in dedicated "bronze only" competitions.
All of these players are eligible to play in these tournaments, usually with prizes for each bronze band:
Bronze 1
Bronze 1 band is defined as Club Masters and Novices. Typically this covers players who are or have recently been in classes. These players are also eligible to play in these tournaments:
Bronze 2
Bronze 2 band is defined as Local Masters and District Masters. Typically this covers players who have a little more experience and are probably playing regularly in some club tournaments. These players are also eligible to play in these tournaments:
Bronze 3
Bronze 3 band is defined as Masters, 1 Star Masters and 2 Star Masters. Typically this covers players who are playing regularly in club tournaments, and may play in occasional National Tournaments. These players are also eligible to play in these tournaments:
Bronze 4
Bronze 4 band is defined as 3 Star Masters, 4 Star Masters, 5 Star Masters and all Senior Masters. Typically this covers experienced players who are playing regularly in club tournaments, and may play in occasional National Tournaments. These players are also eligible to play in these tournaments:
Checking Your Ranking
All player ranks below Regional Master have been split into four "Bronze" levels, so that bronze prizes can be better tailored to the mix of players in any particular event.
Your ranking is based on three-monthly snapshots taken on 1st September, 1st December, 1st March and 1st June of each year. Your ranking can improve at any time once you have accumulated the appropriate number of Master Points, but the level at which you're allowed to participate will only change on those dates. You can check your ranking on the MEMPAD site shortly after each three-monthly date.
