Festival of Bridge: It's a big deal! 9-15 Sept., 2024 |
|
🎊♠♥🎉Festival of Bridge🎉♦♣🎊
The first-ever Festival of Bridge – It’s a Big Deal!, taking place 9-15 September this year across Scotland and England, promises to be an exciting celebration of the game for all bridge enthusiasts. The Festival aims to foster awareness and interest in bridge as a mindsport for all ages and abilities, as well as raising funds for Cancer Research UK. Our goal is to raise £10,000 in Scotland during the Festival of Bridge.
The Festival will be held as a series of events nationwide - in clubs, halls and homes across the country. Here's a flavour of what’s on the cards – pop-up bridge, pot-luck partner evenings, bridge marathons, twinned-town matches, taster bridge & brownie sessions, bring a buddy to bridge, bridge in a day, black tie bridge, charity lunches, bonkers bridge and much more.
Any ideas for our own club - leave them in the comments below!!

Plockton CaféBridge 2024 |
♠ ♥ Save the Date♦ ♣
CaféBidge 2024 will be Thursday 24th October, in aid of Rag Tag Textile.
The ‘Night Before’ event, also known as ‘CaféBridge aperitifs’ will be in Plockton village Hall.
On the day we will be directed as always by the wonderful Victor Lesk, with scores entered electronically by players on their smartphones using the BriAn app-based scoring system.
This allows us to announce a result very soon after the last board is played. If you have not come across BriAn before, you can find out more here.
The cost per person is £30.00 (bridge and food - drinks are excluded).
Bookings will be taken via credit/debit card or BACS transfer through the BriAnBridge website (i.e. not through your club member account).

♣️♦️Killin 2024 Bridge Break♥️♠️ |
♣ ♦ A great time was had by all!!♥ ♠
Sixteen enthusiastic bridge players from the Kyle of Lochalsh Bridge Club, visited Killin Hotel last week, for an intensive teaching bridge holiday with our local professional teacher/player Mark Lincoln as lecturer.
Mark gave us a challenging 2 day programme of seminars, play and review, including Hand Evaluation, Competitive Bidding and Winning Tactics. High power stuff indeed!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the course: the ambiance, food, rooms and staff in the Killin Hotel, were all exemplary. Thank you, Killin. We had a ball, and we’ll be back!
The happy connection between Mark and the Skye and Lochalsh players began in 2020 when he kindly helped our small but active club to play online during COVID, allowing us to continue playing this wonderful mind sport while stuck in our homes, thus preserving our sanity!
Now we’ve bounced back, playing Face2Face twice a week in Kyleakin and once a week on RealBridge.

Furthest travelled award? |
We’re not sure exactly what the chocolate orange prize was for….maybe the furthest travelled? It was lovely to welcome long distance members Harriet and Guido Galantes looking much bigger than they appear on RealBridge!

Winners at the CaféBridge Aperitifs tournament! |
Well done to Sara Villiers and Julia Hailes, the winners at our CaféBridge Aperitifs tournament in the Haven.
A 20 board Mitchel with a switch, expertly TD’d by Victor Lesk. Super catering by Ank and Mary Jane. A good fun but very competitive evening with 15 full tables.
An excellent warm up for tomorrow….

Welcome back! |
The Spodes were back in the Highlands! They didn’t pick up the potatoes at Dunkeld nor the gold at Plockton….but they DID pick up the Sunday night trophy! Now that’s an annual triumph by KoLBC at the Newtonmore Swiss weekend.
Robert and Sara Spode in a team with Allison Dunn and David Pollard from Oban
And Robert kept everyone well entertained in the Manse….
