We are continuing on Wednesdays in The Lighthouse Centre, Kyle with the earler start time. Please arrive for a prompt start at 6.45.
We had SEVEN full tables and fielded 14 pairs for the Kidney Research Simultaneous Pairs on Wednesday 10th July. A record number for us.
The results are still coming in to the ecats site.
A fabulous score was reached by Charmian Entwistle and John MacDonald. 70.60 %. That must be a KoLBC record score! They are currently sitting SECOND out of the 859 pairs whose scores are in.
Huge congrats also to our three other pairs over 60%. John Warner and Christine Jenkins, Jon Deval and Elspeth Dennett and the Terry’s.
Our CafeBridge Day is Thursday 31st October. If you haven't already signed up, you still can, join the waiting list or offer to be a standby/reserve.
And our Christmas Party will be on Wednesday 11th December in Kyleakin Connections with catering by the Westhighlandkitchen company.
We fielded 12 pairs in the ecats Bill Hughes Tournament on Wednesday. All the results are now in and visible on the ecats website. Steve and Gill Terry won our Kyle of Lochalsh heat with MaryJane and Connie a close second. But over the international field of 800 pairs, 58 clubs in 12 countries. .MaryJane and Connie ended up higher, with a highly commendable 59.98% and are sitting 68th out of the whole tournament. The scoring has not been closed yet, so this may still alter.
Huge congratulations to them!
Another nice thing about this tournament- the Spodes have been regularly playing in Cyprus when visiting family and their second club the Zenon club entered an ecats for the first time. So the world of Bridge playing comes together. What fun!
A screen shot of our club results is up on our club news. You can see all the participants and the analysis document on the ecats website.
WELL DONE MARYJANE AND CONNIE! Great results. Great pair.
Big thanks too to our scorer John Mills and our TD Robert Spode. They had a disrupted evening’s play with the powercut and various other things. We’re all very grateful to that super pair!
Pupils from Glenelg Primary came together with pupils from Plockton Primary and some members of KoLBC on Thursday 19th June to play Mini Bridge. Winners of the mini tournament were Rosa from Plockton, partnered by John Warner. A close second was a Glenelg boy partnered by Robert Spode. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and we all look forward to continuing to play mini bridge with the children of Skye and Lochalsh.
Winners at the 29th MAY Teams event in Inverness arranged by Margaret Telford and Laura Ross at the Lochness Country House Hotel. From left to right Robert and Jill Tilford, Wendy and Alan Cruden with Margaret Telford handing out the prizes.
And the runners up were from Kyle
Miriam Drysdale, Robert and Sara Spode, and Bea MacDonald.
Huge thanks to the John Copland for doing the scoring and td’ing so smoothly.

A Grand day with a GrandMaster.
On Thursday 18th, we welcomed Scotland’s top graded Bridge player Liz McGowan to Skye and Lochlash for a 24 hour fundraising trip. Grandmaster Liz McGowan is the playing captain of the Scottish Ladies Team which this year has won a place in the 44th World Team Championships being played in Wuhan, China in September. The team is fundraising for their travel expenses and Liz is offering coaching sessions to any club asking for her services. We took up the offer and managed to raise £450 for the cause through holding two successful coaching sessions on Friday 19th in the Plockton Inn. Liz entertained an enthusiastic group of 22 players with her humorous style of delivery and honest acknowledgement that even the champions don’t have all the answers. She lectured on card play, both as declarer and defender, following on with demonstration hands to play and discuss. The event was stimulating fun for novices and experts alike.
Liz has been representing Britain in International tournaments since 1988 and is also the non-playing captain with many of the British youth teams. She is a great supporter of Bridge being taught in schools and was delighted to hear that it is now being taught in Glenelg, Loch Duich and Plockton primaries.
Unfortunately we can no longer meet on Thursday evenings in the Lighthouse Centre. They will rent Wednesday evenings to us and we hope that will work out well.
Next Wednesday 7th May, 6.45, the duplicate pairs will be in the Nice Cafe Kyleakin.
Please bear with us, while we go through a transition period. We’ll always meet to play this crazy game somewhere on some day of the week. Just club teething problems.
Thanks to Gillian, KoLBC Monday and Friday afternoons are currently in the White Heather Hotel in Kyleakin on Skye. 2-4.30. Every week. Call it what you want- Gentle Bridge? Chatty Bridge? Play and Learn? Supported Bridge? Easy Duplicates? It’s a few hours of fun play, usually with Steve Terry there to ask for advice, if you want advice.
Join in! If you bring the biscuits or cake for everyone, you get a free session! Otherwise, Gillian only wants £2 per person to cover costs. THANK YOU Gillian!
