♠  Bridge the Virus

KSBA had launched a similar program during the lockdown which we called "Bridge the Virus - An Introduction to Bridge" - which received tremendous response and we trained nearly 60 people. The program was well received by all participants. The overall rating for the program was 4.6 / 5 - based on feedback from the participants.

The details of that program are below. The Bridge the Virus program has now been discontinued and contents of that have been merged with the above program (Mind Your Cards).

Abstract

Adversities bring opportunities. We at Karnataka State Bridge Association believe that the social isolation enforced by the COVID-19 virus has given us an opportunity to reach out to YOU to showcase Bridge. The game of Bridge is rightly called GAME FOR LIFE as it boosts up the immunity among one and all, keeps your mind sharp for all age groups while studies have shown that school going children are benefited by the early training in Logical Reasoning, Partnership, Teamwork and Ethics which are LIFE SKILLs and will stand them in good stead for all careers later in life. But most of all, Bridge is a FUN GAME to play. Let this lockdown not put a stop to Learning, let the lockdown while separating us physically also bring us together to play this Mind game - that was our approach.

About the training

We have a group of trainers headed by Mr. Manoj Kumar K who have been teaching bridge to people for many years now. Training uses best practices from across the world and broadly follows American Contract Bridge and World Bridge Federation guidelines with additional home grown material.

ABOUT BRIDGE – Duplicate Bridge is an indoor mind-sport, is a part of the International Mindsport Association (IMSA) along with Chess and similar sports. All mind-sports are skill and memory based non-gambling games. Working professionals recognise BRIDGE as a game that keeps their analytical, logical, out of box problem solving abilities sharp while exercising memory. Playing Bridge from a YOUNG AGE improves academic performance  as demonstrated by studiesError! Reference source not found. conducted in US and UK schools. Schools are also increasingly adopting alternate Math training methods with Bridge as a tool.  As one of the most popular social games in Britain, USA and other European nations, playing Bridge has also been proven to slow down onset of age-related mental illnesses and improve immune system health.

Bridge is played with a pack of cards. Bridge and  Chess were the ONLY two mind-sports included in the list of sports at the Asian Games  that was held at Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, in 2018. India bagged a GOLD and two BRONZE medals at these games. Bridge is currently vying for a place in the Olympic Games
