Q: Some tournament organisers asked me for my Masterpoint Number (Or BFI MP No / Masterpoint ID). I don't know my Masterpoint Number. How do I get it?
A: We allot BFI MP Number to you when you become KSBA member. You can check your BFI MP No by logging on to BFI website at http://bfi.net.in/member-services/masterpoints/. You need to click on "Masterpoints Leaderboard" and search your name. If you do not find it there, please let us know via Contact us page and we'll help you.
Q: What are masterpoints? What kind of masterpoints are there?
A: Masterpoints are some points that are allocated to members participating in tournaments on the basis of their performance. It helps BFI keep track of relative performances of the players and rank them. There are two types of masterpoints. "Fed Masterpoints" and "Local Masterpoints". Fed masterpoints are given in National level tournaements and Local masterpoints are given for other state and local tournaments. Your total masterpoints are just sum of Fed Masterpoints and Local Masterpoints. Some tournaments have participation criteria on the basis of masterpoints.
Q: How to check my current masterpoints? Or How many masterpoints do I have right now?
A: You can check your current masterpoints at any point of time by logging on to BFI website at http://bfi.net.in/member-services/masterpoints/. You need to click on "Masterpoints Leaderboard" and search your name or BFI MP Number.
Q: How often are masterpoints updated?
A: Masterpoints are generally updated within a month of the tournament if the tournament is national/state level. For local tournaments, the updates are made once in a year at the end of the year.
Q: What is current masterpoints update status?
A: Masterpoints are currently fully updated till Dec. 2018 and for the National and State Level championships that took place after that.
Q: My name doesn't appear in Masterpoints Leaderboard. Why?
A: If you don't see your name appear in the leaderboard there, it could possibly because you might not have earned any masterpoints yet. If you do have masterpoints and still unable to find yourself here, please let us know via Contact us page.
Q: How do I see my masterpoints history?
A: If you would like to know history of your masterpoints (When you earned how many masterpoints), you can login to http://bfi.net.in/ with your BFI MP Number as your Login and "bridge" as password and check it. If this doesn't work, please let us know via Contact us page.
Q: Who calculates masterpoints and keeps track of them?
A: For national and state level tournaments, corresponding directors or state masterpoints secretaries communicate the results of the tournaments to the BFI Masterpoints secretary. BFI Secretary then calculates the maserpoints and updates them in BFI Database. For other local tournaments, state masterpoints secretaries coordinate with BFI masterpoints secretary to get masterpoints updated for them. In Karnataka the masterpoints secretary calculates the masterpoints for each local tournament and get them updated in BFI DB at the end of the year all at once.
Q: Do we get masterpoints for weekly tournaments?
A: Right now we don't. There are some technical challenges there like capitation fee, and logistical challengs like keeping track of results, calculating masterpoints, updating etc. If you are interested in helping on this front, either by volunteeting to do it manually or by exploring how it can be done via technology, please let us know via Contact us page.
Q: How are masterpoints calculated?
A: There are certain formulas on the basis of which top 20% of the field in a tournament gets masterpoints. If you are interested in formulas, please reach out to us via Contact us page.
Q: Are there any ranks that we get on the basis of masterpoints?
A: Yes we do. Rank categories and criteria can be accessed here: http://bfi.net.in/member-services/masterpoint-categories/
Q: Do masterpoints lapse as time passes?
A: Right now in BFI this doesn't happen. Once you earn a masterpoint, it is counted for you forever, irrespective of whether you have been earned masterpoints recently or not.
Q: I was a player in other state earlier and have masterpoint number and masterpoints for that state association. Would I still have them if I move to Karnataka?
A: Yes, it is possible. You can let us know about your existing MP number and we can either use that number itself as your MP number in KSBA records too, or we can get masterpoints from previous number transferred to your new number.
