Since lockdown, we have been running our own KBC tournaments on BBO for free. Unfortunately, this situation cannot continue both because of the ongoing running costs to the Club and because, as an affiliated EBU Club, we should be paying the UMS (the pay-to-play) charge. It is clear that we are going to have to charge members to play. The mechanism for collecting this money has still to be decided.
Since we are going to have to pay, it is worth considering an alternative scheme that has been agreed between the EBU and BBO that will allow us to play at any time. Particularly for us, the advantage would be the opportunity to play in the evenings. This scheme asks members to pay $3 (about £2.40) directly to BBO, via a straightforward mechanism on the BBO website, for each tournament they play in. BBO will take 30% of this money (rising to 50% over the next few months) and the rest will come back to KBC out of which we will pay the UMS fee.
Using this scheme will not prevent us from continuing to run (with a charge that will be considerably less than £2.40) morning or afternoon tournaments as we have been. However, this will necessarily require much more administration by the Club.
Question: Would you like the option of evening tournaments costing about £2.40?
