| Hand of the Month |
With many thanks to Liz McGowan who has kindly provided the hands and commentary.
Over the next few months hands will be posted which demonstrate Declarer Endplay.
Endplay is a valuable technique in the armoury as the lead is made, dummy goes down and options are evaluated for a maximum result.

| Hand of the Month - January 2026 |
Number 10 in a series on Endplays.

W N E S
1NT All Pass
North leads ♠ 2. If this is a genuine 4th highest he has just 4 spades. South plays ♠ K and West takes ♠ A. He counts 2 spades and 4 diamonds but the 7th trick is not so easy.
If defender opens up clubs or hearts that will establish a trick, so plan an endplay. Cash ♠ Q, then 4 diamonds, then exit with dummy's last spade.
After making two spade tricks ( throw a heart and then ♣ 2 from hand and a heart from dummy) they must help you out in one of the remaining suits.
