TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
The teams will be divided into 2 or 3 groups each, with the TOP 8 teams seeded based on the average Master points as on 10th Sep, 2022. The other teams will be randomly divided into groups with the condition that member states having more than one teams will not be in the same group as far as possible.
In case there are 24 or less teams, the teams will be divided into 2 groups and there will be an all-play-all Round-Robin within each group to be played over 2 days (Minimum 6 rounds of 10 boards on day-1 & remaining RR rounds of 10 boards on day-2). The 4 highest ranked teams from each group will qualify to Quarter Finals
In case of 25-30 teams, the teams will be divided into 3 groups of 9 or 10 teams each and will play an all-play-all Round-Robin within each group to be played over 2 days (Minimum 5 rounds of 10/12 boards on day-1 & remaining rounds of 10/12 boards on day-2).
In case of 31-36 teams, the teams will be divided into 3 groups of 11 or 12 teams each and will play an all-play-all Round-Robin within each group to be played over 2 days (Minimum 6 rounds of 8/10 boards on day-1 & remaining rounds of 8/10 boards on day-2).
In case of three uneven groups, 2 top teams from each group will qualify. The other two qualifiers will be determined after adding an average score for equating no of rounds played to the group, which has less no of teams.
In case of 3 groups, the 2 highest ranked teams from each group & the 2 best teams (with higher VP Scores) in 3rd position from each group will qualify to Quarter Finals.
In case of tie-break between 2 teams within the group, the ranking will be determined as follows:
- Higher rank will be given to the team, which has beaten the other tied team in direct match played in round-robin.
- If the direct match was tied, then the Sum of the winning margins for all matches of both the teams will be calculated. The team with higher margin will be ranked higher.
- If that is also same, then toss will decide the higher rank.
QUARTER-FINALS:
Quarter-Finals will be played in 3 Sessions of 12 boards each. The draw for the QF will be as under:
In case of 2 groups i.e. Group A and Group B – A1 will have the right to choose from B3 or B4 and B1 will have the right to choose from A3 or A4. A2 will automatically play with the remaining team of Group B and vice versa.
The team selected by A1 and B1 will become B4 and A4 respectively and teams who will play with A2 & B2 will become B3 and A3.
In case of 3 groups i.e. Group A, Group B & Group C – The toppers of each group will become seeds 1, 2 & 3 based on their Round Robin Scores. Seed 1 will have the right to choose any team out of the remaining 5 teams, which do not belong to his group (the chosen team will be seed 8). Then 2 will choose (the chosen team will be seed 7) with the same logic and then 3 can choose (the chosen team will be seed 6). Out of the 2 remaining teams, the team with higher score in Round-Robin will be seeded 4 and the other team will be seeded 5.
The team selected by A1 and B1 will become B4 and A4 respectively and teams who will play with A2 & B2 will become B3 and A3.
SEMIFINALS:
Semi-Finals will be played in 4 Sessions of 12 boards each. The draw for SF will be as under:
Winner of A1 Vs. B4 match (or 1 Vs. 8) Vs. Winner of B2 Vs. A3 match (or 4 Vs. 5)
Winner of B1 Vs. A4 match (or 2 Vs. 7) Vs. Winner of A2 Vs. B3 match (or 3 Vs. 6)
If there are two teams of the same state in Semi-Finals, both these teams will face each other.
In case of Semi Finals, where there are three teams of the same state, the team with the Highest VP in the Round Robin among the three teams will have the option to select the other team of the same state.
PLAY-OFF
The losers of the SF matches will play 3 sessions of 12 board matches to determine the 3rd / 4th rank team.
FINALS
Finals will be played in 4 Sessions of 12 boards each.
