Partnering Up

When you click on the title of the HCOB tournament (not the host button), you reach the screen in which you partner up (below).

You will see along the top a line of four tabs about the HCOB tournament/session:

  • The first tab, 'Register', shown in the screen above, is where you register if you have a partner.
  • The second tab, 'Details', tells you more about the tournament.
  • The third tab, 'Entries', lists pairs that have already registered (in the illustration, nobody yet).
  • The fourth tab, 'Partnership Desk', is where you look for or offer yourself as a partner (see below).

Click 'Register' if you have a pre-arranged partner.

In the box that appears (above) enter your partner's BBO username. Your partner needs to be logged in to BBO (not BBO casual) for your partnership to be accepted.

If you have a partner and they are not online, wait for them to arrive and follow the steps above. Tip: if you 'follow' your prospective partner using the 'Add Friend' facility in the 'People' tab on the right of the screen, you will be alerted when they come online and BBO will autofill their username when you start typing.

If your partner invites you to register, accept the invitation and you will have been registered.

Then you wait until the tournament starts, at which point you will be whisked to the first table and the cards appear.

Click on the ‘Partnership Desk’ tab if you do not have a partner.

If you do not have a partner, click on the ‘Partnership Desk’ tab and either offer to play with someone listed there who is also looking for a partner or add your name to the list of those looking for a partner.

If you are looking for a partner, it is best to sign in a bit earlier than others (up to 90 minutes before start time) otherwise in the mad scramble just before the tournament starts you might miss out. If all else fails, you have the option to play with a robot, for which you would have to pay 25c (using the BBO$ you will have previously bought). 

VERY IMPORTANT: THE TOURNAMENT WILL START ON TIME WHETHER YOU HAVE REGISTERED OR NOT. DON'T HANG AROUND, THEREFORE. CONNECT WITH YOUR PARTNER AND REGISTER AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE START TIME.
