Avoidance play is simply deciding which opponent you do not want to be on lead – they may have winners to cash or be in a position to lead through your honours. The presenter (rather cutely) describes the two opponents as the Goodie (“I don’t mind them being on lead”) and the Baddie (“I do not want them on lead”) and he keeps these descriptions even in part two where he outlines the defenders counter-measures to declarer’s tactics. The value of the Avoidance play is demonstrated and he notes that, usually, only one player is in the correct position at the table to lead a particular suit.
A very good DVD where most players will benefit from watching and being able to determine which opponent needs to be kept off lead.
