Email scam

Please note that an email phishing scam is currently being targeted at bridge club members from scammers abroad, and has affected some of our members, as well as other bridge clubs in the UK.

If you get an email from another HBC member that is both sent from and to that member (i.e. not sent to you in the Send to: line), asking for a few minutes of your time via email, then do not reply. If you reply, you will then get another saying that one of their relatives has terminal cancer and they would like you to buy an Apple e-gift card for them.

This is a scam. Do not under any circumstances give any money and better not to reply in the first instance, to avoid your email address being used by the scammer. Please let Carol F. know if you get one of these emails.

Here to help!
Help for solving those tricky problems is at hand...

Got a problem with a hand that could use an experienced eye to look over and give some advice? Could be a problem in the bidding, the play of the hand or in defence. No matter, two of our more experienced bridge players at the club, Matthew and John T. are here to help.

Simply fill in the form below describing your problem and tell them where to find the hand and ping it off to them. They will be able to give you some salient advice on how you might have made your contract, got the opponents down or found that extra trick that most other pairs managed to find! You may find that they both give the same answer or you may get two different answers. Whatever they come up with will be worth looking at and hopefully you will learn a trick or two (pun intended!) for the next time you come across a similar situation.

This works better if it's a hand that you played at HBC, another club or online where they can see the results and hand information on BridgeWebs. If you have a hand that comes from a game not showing on BridgeWebs, then just supply us with your contact details as well as the deal, the vulnerability, the dealer, your seating position and whether it was a teams or pairs event and they will do their best to help you. Use the form to do this as far as you can, and follow up with an email, when either Matthew or John reply.

If there are some general learning points that would be worth sharing with other members, you may find your question and the advice, published in the monthly HBC newsletter. We won't be publishing your names or those of your opponents so you need have no worries about asking any questions. No one else will know it was you!
