EBU Upcoming Virtual Events Newsletter
As October is fast approaching, we would like to keep you informed of the range of competitions taking place over the next few weeks.
National Handicap Pairs
The National Handicap Pairs will now take place online this Sunday 4th October, the competition format will remain the same. The special thing about this competition is that the results will be adjusted by the average of each pair’s NGS grades, so everyone will have a chance of winning simply by playing better than usual.
You can play in one of the club heats or in the national heat hosted by the EBU.
For a full list of clubs taking part and for more information, click here.
The Autumn Congress will now be held on RealBridge on 23rd - 25th October.
RealBridge is a new online bridge platform currently undergoing extensive testing among clubs and national organisations across the world. Its most distinctive feature is that it uses your computer's camera and microphone (if it has them) to provide video and audio of the players at the table, aiming to replicate the experience of playing face to face. However, players without that capacity will still be able to play by typing comments in the traditional manner.
In preparation for the Autumn Congress, we are offering a number of short (six boards) free games on RealBridge this week to give people the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the playing environment before the event.
The free games will be on Wed/Fri at 7.45pm and Tue/Thu at 6.15pm. If you would like to play, please reply to this email and you will be sent details about joining the games.

Are You Missing Your EBU Diary?
If you did not receive your 2021 diary in the September edition of the English Bridge magazine, it is probably because you did not opt in.
You can still get a 2021 diary by contacting the EBU office via email firstname.lastname@example.org
Make sure that you update MyEBU with your preferences to receive one for next year 2022. They are no longer being sent out automatically.
- If you use My EBU, login and go to your account, my details and check your account settings. If you wish to receive the diary, under Magazine/Diary Preferences take the option All Editions + Diary. Then save your changes.
- If you haven't used My EBU or have forgotten your password then click here where you will be directed to the EBU website. Don't forget to have your membership number to hand.

HBC Online Duplicate Sessions
Our club online sessions have now been running for nearly 2 months. Times of sessions and results are on the right hand side of the website and a resume of scores is under Competitions 20/21 on the left. There were initially some small hiccups but sessions are now running smoothly and efficiently. Huge thanks to Barry Whiteley and Rob Cave for all the work they put into this.
We do still wish that we could encourage more members to take part.
I was quite apprehensive at first but now find it relaxing and enjoyable. PLEASE do contact me (or Helen, Rob or Barry) if you would like to give it a try and we will answer any questions or have a game with you.
Yorkshire (YCBA) has organised several events in which some of our members have played. There was a Swiss Teams which attracted 118 pairs and a Mixed Pairs which had an entry of 70 pairs. All Yorkshire competitions will be advertised on this website.
Also the EBU runs 8 sessions each day with entries ranging from around 30 to 80 tables. Shelagh and Catherine have played regularly in these and are to be congratulated on achieving a score of 71.5% last Friday, finishing 2nd in a large field.
Obviously we would ideally like to return to playing in the club and we shall inform everyone of plans for this when it becomes a possibility.
