Ken Winckle 

It's with great sadness that we must inform you all of the death of Ken Winckle this morning, Tuesday 8th of September. He had a heart attack last week and had declined further. 

He was one of our senior TDs at the bridge club, he played mainly on Monday afternoons and Wednesday evenings and will be greatly missed. 

A service celebrating Ken's life will be held at Maple Park Crematorium, Thirsk, YO7 4SA, on Thursday 8th October at 1pm, with a reception held at the same venue afterwards.  The family would like to know rough numbers of how many people will be attending so there is a sign up sheet at the club.

Swiss Pairs

Friday 25th September

Ian and Mary Rodger Trophy
 

Our next Swiss Pairs event will be on Friday 25th September, 12.45 for a 1pm start. 

This is the second of the six Swiss Pairs sessions.  The best 4 scores out of 6 over the season will count towards the trophy which can be awarded to a pair or to an individual as it is not necessary to play with the same partner each time.

The remaining Swiss pairs will be played on the following Friday afternoons: November 6th, December 4th, January 8th, March 19th.

As always, this event is open to all members of the club who are used to playing in standard duplicate sessions.  The first round is random but thereafter, you will be playing members of a similar standard to yourself so it's a great event to include everyone!

The Swiss Pairs events can run on a little longer than a duplicate pairs session so please ensure you allow plenty of time.

Wednesday Teams of Four

This is the second of the five teams events to be played on Wednesday evenings from June to February.  Due to the popularity of the last session please sign-up in advance to give us an indication as to how many teams to expect. Maximum of 13 teams.

The EBU Great Northern Swiss Pairs 3rd & 4th October 2026 @ Village Hotel, Leeds North

Organised by the YCBA on behalf of the English Bridge Union. This is a national green point event.

The venue will be the Village Hotel, Headingley LS16 5PR.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the session starts.

We would like to invite members to express their interest in playing for Harrogate in the forthcoming Yorkshire League season.  There are 7 divisions which cover all standards from beginners to the very experienced and we need players of all levels to play in our teams.

This year the club will be paying travel expenses to away matches so this will  provide a completely free day of bridge with refreshments included. The cost of playing in home matches will remain at £5 to cover the cost of the teas.

Dates for the Yorkshire League 2026-2027:
25th October
8th November
22nd November
6th December
WINTER BREAK 
14th February
28th February
14th March

The teams will consist of 8 players, playing against other Yorkshire teams, with home and away fixtures and the matches are played on a Sunday afternoon against players of roughly the same standard.

It would be very helpful if we could have an indication of how many members would like to participate in the Yorkshire League this season by 20th July.
