Online At Least 10 minutes Before Tournament Starts

You and your partner must register for tournaments well in advance BUT also need to be online at least 10 mins prior to start of tournament. Members may not be aware of the work TDs provide so let me highlight this:

1. TDs watch the numbers who register and will know, prior to tournament, how many tables there are.

2. Some TDs have their own list of ‘Standby Subs’ so when a half-table is likely, the TD needs time to contact their Standby Subs. This cannot be done when the tournament starts as it would take up too much time during play.

3. It is highly frustrating for TDs when members log-in at the last minute – as this upsets all the planning explained in point (2). 4. When the tournament starts then TDs are kept busy ensuring play is kept to time: arranging subs/robots: answering all calls made to them: dealing with disconnects etc. All TDs give freely of their time but they can do without extra work so please read the website (front page) and stick to the registering and logging-in rules. Your support would be highly appreciated here. Members who log-in during the last few minutes cannot guarantee they will gain instant access as servers could be busy.

Please note that TDs can now ‘close’ tournaments within 10 mins of start of tournament so please ensure you, and partner, have registered early and are both online by this time.

Please also remember to be active - switching from play to History, People etc and back again to keep your BBO conection live.

Do Not Register with a Robot Partner

Members must not register for any HBC tournament with a Robot as your partner. Occasionally a TD (and only a TD) may require to use a robot to allow a tournament to begin. MasterPoints will not be awarded when playing with a Robot.

If you require a partner, please use the Partner Required facility on the HBC website (click on the date of the specific tournament in the Monthly Calendar) or the Partnership Desk on BBO. Click here to see how to use BBO feature.

If unsuccessful then contact the TD for that tournament in the 15 minutes before the start of that tournament.

  Keeping your BBO Connection Live!

A number of pairs have found that they are not “invited” to a tournament they have registered for (often in plenty time - preferably an hour or more before the start) even though they appear to be online. This may well be due to their own internet connection difficulties OR it could be due to BBO “thinking” they are not currently active! The best solution to combat this latter issue is for players to keep an active presence on BBO by moving from Play to History or People or anywhere (except Casual of course) every 20 seconds or so. You will be “invited/propelled” to the tournament wherever you are in BBO (except of course the Casual area)

Be Online and Active at Least 10 minutes Before Start Time

HBC have put into place a procedure to minimise the possibility of an early start to BBO Tournaments after the Monday 7th September 6.08 p.m. start resulted in 8 pairs being “lost” to the tournament!
These “losses” occurred because at least one member of each of these pairs was NOT ONLINE or was seen by BBO to be INACTIVE at that time! If any pair registers at least 15 minutes in advance of the scheduled start AND both players are online and active FROM 10 minutes before the scheduled start they will not have any problem being seated for the tournament.
