Hadley Wood Bridge Club Member Paul Wilson runs bridge holidays throughout the year. His aim is to provide a friendly and relaxing long weekend of bridge in comfortable hotels with good facilities. The varied bridge programme is suitable for all standards and includes Chicago, Duplicate and a seminar with Paul, who is a qualified EBUTA Professional Level Tutor.

Wanted to let you know that a planned trip to Eastbourne in April regrettably only offered one Accessible bedroom along with an inadequate quantity of bedrooms with a walk in shower. A room for sole occupancy and self service meals would have been £506 and to my mind that did not offer good value for money.

However, if you have been to The Ardington Hotel in Worthing before, hope you will agree the food there is the best. There are plenty of rooms on the Ground Floor and if you can manage the stairs, the rooms on the mezzanine and first floor are more spacious.

Would you be interested in me trying to arrange one of my own bridge holidays there in the Summer? Duplicate, Chicago and a Seminar. If so, please let me know and I'll open negotiations.

I will be directing the hotel's own bridge holidays there again this year.

The Ardington Hotel is a privately owned hotel overlooking Steyne Gardens and adjacent to the sea front, about 100 yards from the main shopping centre. Rooms vary in size and are on the ground and first floors, several with a shower cubicle. There is no lift. The award winning Indigo restaurant is renowned for food quality offering traditional hospitality and a variety of dishes.

I have mentioned the New Tricks website before. They continue to develop the site and a recent item caught my attention. They have developed a Battle of the Partners series of videos and the one between Andrew Robson and Zia Mahmoud fascinated me. It was instructive to watch how they had such different approaches to the same hand, and cathartic to see how they struggle with the robots (as I do). You can find it on YouTube here. Members that play face-to-face  on Fridays will be familiar with our BridgeMates at the table and probably aware that we use a Dealing Machine to prepare the boards. What they may not have seen - yet - is a machine that does all this (and more) at each table.

Watch this YouTube video  from Pete Holland and then take a look at this website. Bridge+More may be the way many of us play bridge in the near future. It has already been adopted in over 40 countries.

The system takes over the function of many devices we currently use for face-to-face games. It is a dealing machine, it replaces the tournament computer and administers games, it runs tournaments and teaching events.

It completely replaces our dealing machines and BridgeMates. We still have playing cards and sit around a table. We keep the social, but the hard work of administering the game is reduced. Unlike the current face-to-face games it is trivial to keep track of the cards as they are played and review them after the event. Of course, as it is new technology, the price is relatively high currently. I imagine that over time, and as this approach is adopted, prices will reduce.
