The BWS file can get quite large depending on your ACBL Player file. If it is, please consider below
With a large player database, it would be most efficient to create the special BMPlayerDB.mdb file for Bridgemate lookup of numbers to find names.
There is a write-up on the Bridgemate website about "Configure name settings" http://www.bridgemate.com/resources/documents/BM2manual.pdf. This references using the "tournament" database when there is a very large database.
It is presumed you run your games in ACBLscore's "Club" mode and have the large database available for player lookup. This puts the playern.dat file (the ACBLscore database) in the C:\ACBLSCOR\DBASE folder.
In BCS Tools --> Options --> General --> Scoring Program with the "Load player database after BMS command" checked - that file is loaded each time into the .bws file.
You will want to uncheck this "Load player database after BMS command" option - so your database doesn't load each time and is not put into the .bws file. With the large database, use "Load tournament database" to put your database records into a special BMPlayerDB.mdb file for quick look up by BCS.
If you are using a Windows XP or a 32-bit Windows 7 machine, no changes are needed. However, if you have a Windows 7 64-bit machine, it is necessary to:
- On Tools --> Options --> General --> File Locations to change the location of the BMPlayerDB.mdb file. It is suggested this be changed to: Other folder and use C:\ACBLSCOR\DBASE as the location.
- Using Windows Explorer, copy the "seed" BMPlayerDB.mdb file (105kb) from C:\Program Files (x86)\Bridgemate Pro into the C:\ACBLSCOR\DBASE folder.
- Click on OK to record this change.
Next
- BCS --> Tools --> Options --> General --> Scoring program:
- Be sure ACBLscore is shown as the Scoring program in use.
- Click on "Load tournament database"
- Answer "Yes" to the warning screen
- On the "Open tournament playern.dat file" screen, change the "Look in:" to: C:\ACBLSCOR\DBASE
- Select the Playern.dat as the "File name"
- Click "Open"
- Then your local database will be processed into the special BMPlayerDB.mdb file. This will take several minutes and it may seem as though nothing is happening.
- Wait until there is a screen confirming the upload has been completed.
In BCS: Tools --> Options --> Bridgemate --> Bridgemate II - click on the "settings" button in the Player names area. On the "Names settings" screen that displays, select the second option. Now BCS will use this special file to look up player numbers to display names - and the .bws file will be a normal size.
Whenever you update names in your database, you will want to follow the above to update the BMPlayerDB.mdb file for future BCS lookup.
