Help & Guide
Release 2.19r
14.2 Videos

Videos can be added to News Pages. See the next section for more information on how to add a Video to a news page. Once uploaded they are listed in the Picture library with a 'Video' Icon.

Please Note: that Video files can be very large and can take a lot of bandwidth downloading. They can be up to 10000 times as large as a typical set of results. Some Browsers optimize this, but to view the whole "Video" it will take time.
The Bridgewebs server is not designed for streaming Video and this can flood the server. So Bridgewebs (2.19p) transfers Videos to a specialist Video Streaming service Vimeo and uses that instead.

This should be fully automatic, but you will notice a duplicate file with a suffix of .vim instead of the video suffix say mp4.

The transfer to Vimeo is queued and can take several minutes, so Bridgewebs will use the original Video file for the first 15 minutes and thereafter check that the transfer has completed and if so use a Vimeo link instead.

A user will see a slight difference in the Play Bar at the foot of a Video

Vimeo

Direct Bridgewebs Video link

Please Note: For clubs making excessive use of Videos on their web site, we reserve the right to increase the annual subscription to cover the extra costs of the Streaming service. For higher than average usage, this will be in the region of £2/£3 per month equivalent

The currently accepted formats are

  • mp4 (Preferred Format)
  • mov
  • mp3
  • avi
  • wmf
  • wmv
  • swf

Not all browsers support Video files , so if members have problems viewing, it may be due to the browser they are using e.g. Chrome no longer supports plug-ins and Firefox requires some work to be done before plug-ins can be used - check here .

It is recommended that you only have ONE Video per page.
