Help & Guide
Release 2.19r
14.1 Picture Library

This facility allows you to select a picture from your PC and upload it to the web site. You can then use the picture in a "News" item or in the banner for your web site. When the "News" page is displayed, the picture will normally show to the left of the "News" item (there are other options).

Please Note

  • The format of pictures accepted:- gif and jpg, jpeg, png
  • The picture SHOULD BE SCALED before use. A picture straight off a digital camera can be 4MB large or larger. This will be slow to upload and, more importantly, slow for the users of your site.
  • You should have some resizing software supplied with your digital camera which you can use to resize the photograph and generally tidy up the photograph before uploading.
  • Alternatively, Bridgewebs provides the option of uploading and storing the picture and then resizing it on line, see below
  • For a "News" item, a suitable size is a picture between 150 high and 250 pixels wide
  • For a web site, 450 wide is probably large enough.

Upload/Resize/Rotate Picture

Log into Web Administration and click on [Pictures] Tab and then [Upload]. This brings up the browse button, see 17.15 Browse Button. Click on this and select the photo you want from your PC. Click [Open]. Give the picture a title and then click [Save].  The screen will now revert to the picture Library and if the picture is too large it will say so. To correct this, click on the file name (the title you just gave it) and adjust the size

  • Click on the Decrease Size More to reduce the picture by 10% at a time.
  • Click on the Decrease Size to reduce the picture by 1% at a time.
  • Click on the Increase Size to increase the picture by 1% at a time.
  • Click on the Increase Size More to increase the picture by 10% at a time.
  • Click on the [Rotate] to rotate the picture by 90º at a time.
  • It is not a good idea to increase a picture beyond its original size, the picture will become more blurred, but you may need these buttons to fine tune the size of the picture.
  • Click [Save] to save the picture, either with a new name or Bridgewebs will add a suffix on the end.

The [Rotate] option can also be used to loose the orientation flags now added to images on a phone. This overcomes Symptoms where a picture appears alright on a Mobile but upside down etc. on a Desktop.

To save space we suggest you delete the original by ticking the box next to the unwanted picture and the click [Delete Ticked].

Drag and Drop

Please note, you can now drag and drop pictures.

If your Browser supports it, split your screen into two and drag an image/images from your PC into this box to upload direct to Bridgewebs. The bar above will show the upload progress.
Please wait for completion before loading another, especially large images straight off a camera. There will be NO need to click [Save].

Using mp4 "Videos" as www.youtube.com

You can upload an mp4 and use it as a Bridgewebs Picture in a news item, Bridgewebs will add the necessary HTML code to play it.

Please note: mp4 is the preferred video format , but others formats can be used with caution

  • mov
  • mp3
  • avi
  • wmf
  • wmv

N.B. For users familiar with HTML

N.B. When you upload a picture it is saved on the Bridgewebs site and you can actually include it directly in any "News" item with
"→img src="/myclub/picture.jpg" title="My Picture Title" /"← (Symbols are less than and greater than signs, but replaced to avoid turning text into a link)
where the picture you uploaded was called "picture.jpg". Generally this can be achieved using the Editor "Camera" Icon
