Help & Guide
Release 2.19r
8.2 Creating deal files

"Deal" files can be created by various "Random Dealing" software packages, normally used in conjunction with a Dealing Machine

The software Deep Finesse is an additional feature that can analyse deals to determine the optimum Makeable Contracts. Deep Finesse is usually incorporated into the "Random Dealing" Software.

DealMaster incorporates Deep Finesse. The normal format created for the "Dealing Machines" is dlm. However, after creating the Deep Finesse Information, there is an option to save the Hands with "Makeable Contracts" as a file in several formats including pdf and txt. Please note, for txt, set the Margin to 0.

Duplimate incorporates Deep Finesse. After creating the Deep Finesse Information, there is an option to export the "deal" file in several formats including pbn, dmp and txt.

PDF Format

The PDF format is simply the same as the printed sheets you might give out, Bridgewebs cannot interpret these files. You can upload the pdf as a straight forward Bridgewebs "Information" file.

Deal Formats

All other formats are "Deal" files and Bridgewebs can handle various different formats including

  • pbn (with makeable contracts)
  • bri
  • dlm
  • dma
  • dup
  • txt (Dealmaster only with makeable contracts, obsolete)

Makeable Contracts - PBN Format

For some time, the PBN format is has become the "de facto" standard for exchanging deal information. It is the only format supporting the extra "Makeable Contract" information. To obtain the "Makeable Contracts" is necessary to run a process to Analyse the hands. This process can take quite a long time. Sometimes it is referred to as "Deep Finesse", sometimes as “Double Dummy analysis”, but effectively they are the same. You will need to run this and then "Save As" a pbn format file. Before an analysis the file size will be about 8KB , after successful analysis the file size will then be about 24KB.

This process can be achieved with most of the Dealing software in use, DMPro, Bridgecomposer, Dealer4 , and others

Bridgecomposer can be downloaded from www.bridgecomposer.com,

Dealer 4 can be downloaded from at www.dealer4.com/Updates/Dealer4_setup_4v54.exe This can be used on any computer; it does not require a Dealer4 machine to run the software. Click Dealer4 Makeable Contracts.pdf for details on how to calculate Makeable Contracts. NOTE Go to Setup - Preferences and please make sure "Save Makeable Contracts Analysis" is ticked.

Dealmaster can be downloaded from www.dealmaster.com
