This can easily happen if, for example Steven has been recorded as Steve or Stephen on some occasions. With the introduction of wireless recording devices this should happen less often, but the solution is for the Administrator to go to the Member List after signing in via Administration, and record the alternative name(s) as Aliases against the usual name.
