BridgeWebs User Guide
13. The Menu

The pages in your web site will be organized according to the usefulness of the information. The 'Home' page is the one that is accessed first when anyone looks at your web site and will have the most important/up to date information. The remainder of the pages need to be arranged in some kind of order to assist the user in finding what he wants quickly and easily. In Bridgewebs this is the 'Menu' that will be shown on each page of your web site. There are 2 levels, the Top level and Second level.

  • The Top level can have
    • Single pages such as the 'Home' page
    • or Groups of Pages, such that when the user clicks on it, it shows the first page of the Group
  • The Second level has a group of related pages, such as 'Competitions'

You can consider this like your Sunday Newspaper, you have the Front Page of your main Newspaper and then you have a number of pull-out supplements. The Front Page of the Newspaper usually has a list of the supplements (the Menu). In the case of the Web Site the supplements can consist of 1 page.

With Bridgewebs it is possible to adjust the 'Menu' more or less as you please.

You can choose between the classic vertical menu shown down the left hand side and a vertical menu shown across the top of the page. You can set this option in the Menu Theme page.

You can redesign the 'Menu' to suit your particular requirements. You could have all pages at the top level but then the menu might get quite long. It is probably better to group similar pages together. Bridgewebs will then, when a Second level page is clicked, open up the Second Level group to show the user similar pages.

On the Menu Amend Page there are 3 sets of buttons

The first allow you to change the position of Menu Entries

The second allow you to add Page content to the Menu

The third allows you to add Documents to the Menu

Notes

  • If you have previously deleted an entry or want to add any of the pages already in your web site or special Bridgewebs pages, then use the second set of buttons.
  • You can delete an entry to temporarily hide a page while you work on it.
  • A set of sub-menu pages must be preceded by a header. Headers provide for a sub-menu and cannot be moved right (sub-menu). This is only checked when you have completed your changes.
  • When you are finished click [Save] to update the web site
  • If you have messed it up click [Refresh], correct and then [Save].

If you have COMPLETELY messed it up click [Default], which is like a [Factory Reset], adjust and then [Save].
