Ringwood Greyfriars Bridge Club

We are a friendly club and play Duplicate Bridge with a choice of sessions at Greyfriars Community Centre in the heart of Ringwood, Hampshire.

A Gentle Duplicate event takes place on Monday afternoons with a host system, who play free of charge, with another session on Friday evenings where you will need a partner.

The club has a dealing machine to produce the hands, wireless scoring with tablets at each table, and the results with the hands are available at the end of the session.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our much-loved and long-standing member, Keith Payne. Although approaching his mid-nineties, Keith remained a force of nature — still driving, still riding his electric bike, and still playing competitive bridge with the sharpness and enthusiasm of someone half his age. His energy was infectious, his spirit unwavering, and his presence at the table always a joy.

Keith possessed an incredible sense of humour, the kind that could lift a room and dissolve tension in an instant. Many of us will forever remember his immortal words, delivered with perfect timing and a twinkle in his eye: “In your own time, partner.” It became part of the club’s folklore — a phrase that captured his wit, his warmth, and his gentle way of reminding us not to take ourselves too seriously.

He was a friend to many, a mentor to others, and a cherished part of our community for so many years. His absence will be felt deeply across the club. Keith brought laughter, kindness, and camaraderie to every session, and we are all richer for having known him.

Keith will be incredibly missed but never forgotten. His legacy lives on in the stories we share, the games we play, and the fond memories he leaves behind.

Our thoughts are with his family and all who loved him.

The Club runs an Improvers Class on Thursday Mornings at Greyfriars Community Centre from 10:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m
