On Tuesday, 15 April, Georges River Bridge Club lost a much-revered member, Margaret Kefford. She and her husband Michael have been keen bridge enthusiasts for more than fifty years. During this time Margaret achieved the rank of Silver Grand Master with more than 3049 masterpoints. Despite celebrating their 90th birthdays, Margaret and Michael continued to play bridge at a level to which we can only aspire.

Michael indicated that they followed the Power system, which was a variation of the Precision system promoted by Ron Klinger and that it served them well. In 2025 they were already the Wednesday Monthly Champions for January, February and March at Georges River BC. The Wednesday session Director, Max Gilbert, described Margaret as a calm and gracious player who welcomed all to her table and never complained. When asked recently what she enjoyed about playing bridge, Margaret said that she loved the challenge.

In her early years Margaret was a primary school teacher and a swimming teacher. Yvonne Devlin mentioned how she enjoyed teaching swimming with Margaret at the Canterbury pool. Margaret indicated that she was looking for a challenge as their children got older and more independent. She and Michael started playing bridge at the former St George Budapest Bridge Club, now Georges River Bridge Club, fifty years ago and have remained keen players ever since. In addition to playing, Margaret served as Secretary on the Committee of St George Budapest BC for many years.

May she rest in peace, she will be missed dearly by us all.
