Seasonal message from Mary Winters, Bridge Club President |
There is a great air of vibrancy in the Bridge Club due in part to the arrival of 20 beginners, bringing our total membership to 140 members, all affiliated to the CBAI. The beginners have completed a programme of lessons, with additional tuition from Niall Barry. Tom Synnott organised and ran a competition on a Monday morning in early November for regular members/beginners. This was a great success and has led to the smooth integration of the beginners into the main club competitions.
On the competitive front, the Inter A Fanagan League team, comprising Mary Winters, Katherine Bardon, Hilda Duff, Niall Barry, won the Shield in their division in May and this year five teams have been entered in the competition, including a Novices team from the beginners, who have made a great start to their campaign with two wins so far. The Victor Smith Trophy was won by Maria and Gerry Stone following two sessions of very competitive bridge. Congratulations to all the winners.
On the social scene, the annual trip to Kelly’s Rosslare took place in early November and was a very enjoyable and successful event. The first term was rounded off in style by the Christmas Party held on 16 December – attended by the President and Captains of Grange – and it was very much enjoyed by all.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
