Bridge is not a simple game. You cannot start playing after an explanation of 5 minutes. That's why bridge clubs organise lessons for new players.
Every year, around February/March/April a series of new lessons is held. In 12 lessons you will learn the basics of bridge, followed by a few sessions of social playing. Then after this you will be introduced to the club and your exciting career in playing bridge starts!
Look out for the ads in the GB Weekly Newspaper, on the Facebook Community Noticeboard or contact any of the Bridge Club Wednesday or Friday players to see when they start.
Beginners
These lessons are aimed not only at those who have never played before, but also anyone who would like a refresher course in the basics.
We follow the standard NZ Bridge teaching materials so everyone learns the same system throughout New Zealand.
If you would like to register for our lessons, contact Rhoda on 0272004150
- We are holding a taster session for all who are interested on Thursday, 28th March at 6.30 pm at the Rec Centre so come along and see if Bridge is for you. :)
- Our Beginner Lessons then start Thursday, April 2nd 2026 at 6.30 pm and run for 12 weeks.
Features of the Beginners classes
Learning in a group offers an enriching experience. Immerse yourself in the camaraderie of fellow Bridge enthusiasts, share insights, and learn from each other's questions and mistakes.
You’ll make friends, and enjoy social time with a group of like-minded people, as bridge is great brain food, you will improve your strategy skills and memory.
You will learn a new and different ‘language’ in order to communicate with your partner and understand what the opposition is saying. You and your partner will learn strategies for making the most of your cards compared to all the other pairs who play the same hands.
