Conduct & Etiquette // Conduite & Éthique

LAW 74 - CONDUCT AND ETIQUETTE

A. Proper Attitude

  1. A player should maintain a courteous attitude at all times.

  2. A player should carefully avoid any remark or extraneous action that might cause annoyance or embarrassment to another player or might interfere with the enjoyment of the game.
  3. Every player should follow uniform and correct procedure in calling and playing.
  4. Players should put mobile phones on silent and should refrain from consulting phones at the table.

B. Etiquette

As a matter of courtesy a player should refrain from:

  1. paying insufficient attention to the game.
  2. making gratuitous comments during the auction and play.
  3. detaching a card before it is his turn to play.
  4. prolonging play unnecessarily (as in playing on although he knows that all the tricks are surely his) for the purpose of disconcerting an opponent.
  5. summoning and addressing the Director in a manner discourteous to him or to other contestants.

C. Violations of Procedure

The following are examples of violations of procedure:

  1. using different designations for the same call.
  2. indicating approval or disapproval of a call or play.
  3. indicating the expectation or intention of winning or losing a trick that has not been completed.
  4. commenting or acting during the auction or play so as to call attention to a significant occurrence, or to the number of tricks still required for success.
  5. looking intently at any other player during the auction and play, or at another player’s hand as for the purpose of seeing his cards or of observing the place from which he draws a card

(but it is appropriate to act on information acquired by unintentionally seeing an opponent’s card ).

  1. showing an obvious lack of further interest in a deal (as by folding one’s cards).
  2. varying the normal tempo of bidding or play for the purpose of disconcerting an opponent.
  3. leaving the table needlessly before the round is called.

D. Bidding

  1. Do not touch Bidding Card before your decision is made – otherwise an infraction maybe  called if cards are removed and replaced.

  1. Leave Bidding sequence on the table until first card has been lead.

  1. N/S are responsible for travellers(boards) and they should not be removed from the table during play .

LOI 74 - CONDUITE ET ÉTHIQUE

A. Attitude appropriée

  1. ne pas prêter suffisamment attention au jeu ;
  2. faire des commentaires sans motif pendant les annonces et le jeu ;
  3. détacher une carte avant son tour de jouer ;
  4. prolonger le jeu inutilement (par exemple en continuant de jouer bien qu’il sache que toutes les levées sont à lui) dans le but de perturber un adversaire ;
  5. faire appel ou s’adresser à l’arbitre d’une manière discourtoise pour lui ou pour les autres joueurs.

C. Violation des procédures

Exemples de violation des procédures :

  1. utiliser des désignations différentes pour la même déclaration ;
  2. marquer l’approbation ou la désapprobation d’une déclaration ou d’un jeu ;
  3. indiquer l’espoir ou l’intention de gagner ou perdre une levée non terminée ;
  4. commenter ou agir pendant les annonces ou le jeu pour attirer l’attention sur un fait significatif ou sur le nombre de levées encore nécessaires pour réussir le contrat ;
  5. regarder attentivement un joueur pendant les annonces et le jeu, ou la main d’un autre joueur dans l’intention de voir ses cartes ou d’observer l’endroit d’où il tire une carte (mais il est conforme à l’éthique d’agir en fonction d’une information acquise en voyant par inadvertance une carte de l’adversaire) ;
  6. montrer un manque d’intérêt évident pour la suite d’une donne (par exemple en mélangeant ses cartes) ;
  7. varier le tempo des annonces ou du jeu dans l’intention de dérouter un adversaire ;
  8. quitter la table sans raison avant la fin du tour.
