Charitable Donation |
Following the success of our online games the club have made a presentation to Macmillan and The Royal British Legion of £650.00 each. We would like to thank all of you who supported our online games to make this possible.
Many of you will be aware that in normal times the club run an Andrew Robson day, the proceeds of which are donated to Macmillan, hence one donation to them.We made the other donation to The Royal British Legion as on of our members celebrated his 100th birthday during lockdown and raised money for them by doing a skydive, see more here, so we wanted to support his efforts.

Member in Print |
BRIDGE CLUB member John Phelps has just had his sixth book published. This time, it is a collection of short stories entitled “A Kind Of Magic” … which is the name of the first story. The collection covers a variety of genres, including crime, off-beat romance, sport, fantasy, drama, homelessness and humour … and there is even one with a bridge theme … and they vary in length and pace.
Some of the tales are based on personal experiences, while others are purely imagination , says John, who declines to divulge which is which!
“A Kind Of Magic” can be bought through bookshops, such as Waterstone’s or WH Smith, or directly from the publisher. Further details can be obtained via Google.

Face to Face Bridge |
All players must prove that they have been vaccinated against Covid 19 twice, the latest being three weeks before the date of play.
Every member and guest attending the club sessions do so at their own risk. We also ask that on the morning of the session you take a lateral flow test confirming you do not have COVID.
In order to play the two things you must do are: -
- Proof of vaccination: those attending, whether club member or visitor, must register proof of two Covid-19 vaccinations, the latest being at least three weeks before the date of play. This can be registered via one of the following three methods: NHS App - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
- In advance via a scanned/photographed vaccination certificate (or proof of vaccination from your NHS app) emailed to Sylvia. This is our preferred means of notification.
- Production of vaccination card on the day.
- Proof of vaccination via the NHS app on a smart phone on the day, this is not the test and trace App but the NHS App which has your Covid passport.
- The Face to Face sessions initially will be by pre booking only to enable the committee to prepare the room. You can use this link to contact us Fulbourn Bridge Club, Fulbourn, Cambridge (bridgewebs.com) to advise if you are playing. The session will commence at 1.45 pm with entry to the centre and Bridge Room from round about 1.35 pm.

Here’s what our members say about playing online |
"I was very nervous about playing on line but definitely all for it now" JB
“Most enjoyable. Can’t get enough of it. No time to eat meals really. Online bridge has the advantage that my partners cannot give me menacing looks between hands or criticise me for making mistakes - which I do often! It’s also great to be able to replay the hands afterwards to see where one went wrong”. MM
"Online Bridge is obviously not the same as the real thing but is still very enjoyable. A great advantage of online bridge is that there can be no revokes, no insufficient bids, nor bids or leads out of turn" DW
"I miss the banter and the bikkies but at least I feel more in touch with my friends out there." GJ
