ORGANISATION AND HOUSE RULES
1. Organisation The club shall be known as the Fuengirola International Bridge Club It is a non-profit making club. The object of the club shall be to provide Duplicate, and social Rubber bridge for all levels of players from all countries. The governing committee shall be composed of three officers: Frank, Christel and Deanne. The committee is responsible for all aspects of running the club.
2. Timing of Games A calendar of events will be published annually. Players should be seated at least 5 minutes before the start of play. The timing of the last move will be at the discretion of the TD.
3. Catering Arrangements There will be a 15 minute break in games to order drinks. Only food and drink from the Oasis bar may be consumed in the club.
4. During Play This is a friendly bridge club and all members are expected to behave at all times. If a member misbehaves, the committee will decide how serious it is and take appropriate action. Repeated bad behaviour will result in a ban. In order to allow for international differences in bidding and norms players should alert wherever there is room for confusion. Some but not all of these are: 1NT openings, Stayman and transfers, jump bids, cue bids of opponents’ suits, short minor suit openings and any conventional system bids. To keep things simple, no claims will be allowed. All hands should be played out. To keep the game running smoothly the director should be called to the table to settle any disputes. All players concerned should accept the tournament director’s ruling on any query regarding the bidding or play of a hand. An appeal against the ruling should be made in the first instance to the Director, who will consult with any qualified tournament director or if none present a senior player(s) to consider the appeal. The result of this will be communicated to both pairs. The tournament director is responsible for scoring and he or she should be allowed to carry out this task without interference. Mobile phones must be switched off.
5. Arrangements at End of Play All boards to be returned to the storage cupboard. Table cloths should be returned to the storage cupboard. Bidding boxes to be closed and both bidding boxes and bridgemate to be returned to the storage cupboard. Empty glasses to be returned to the bar. The last person to leave the Club, normally a Committee member, to check room is left tidy.
6. Proprieties All members are expected to observe proper standards of behavior. Players should at all times be courteous to their opponents and also to their partners. In particular, regular players are expected to show special consideration to newcomers or other less experienced players. Players should call the tournament director if they are being disturbed by the behaviour of others or if they have been affected by another player’s behaviour. The tournament director can impose fines for bad behaviour. Fines can result in up to 20% of scores being deducted, disqualification from competitions or disciplinary hearings. Any complaint about the conduct of a member will be dealt with by the Committee through its conduct/complaints procedure which allows due representation by the member/members concerned.
