Board of Governors
Meet your Board of Governors

Allen Bozek
President

texchem@bellsouth.net

Allen was born and grew up in Taunton Massachusetts, a rural community just southwest of Plymouth. He is well educated and became a chemist, working in the textile industry. Allen played canasta as a kid and then learned bridge from a friend as an adult. After retirement, Allen moved to Florida with some friends. Since then, he has enjoyed his quiet life playing bridge, working out every morning and watching Cozi-TV; one of his favorite shows to watch is Frasier.

Allen‘s family is from Austria (now Poland), where he enjoyed visiting and learning more about his ancestry. He’s been a club member for decades and has served on its board several times, including as president. His favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, often spending it with fellow Bridge players. Allen is most proud of the service he’s given to our club, quietly fixing broken items, identifying ways to improve our systems and acting as one of our dedicated shoppers, for which we are very grateful!

Sheila Cesarano
Board Member
smcesarano@gmail.com

Sheila grew up in a family full of life master Bridge players; every Sunday there were three tables of Bridge played at her house! Now that she’s retired, Sheila plays Bridge at the club several days a week, when she’s not here she enjoys traveling. She has been on over 125 cruises and visited all seven continents. During those travels, she collected many one-of-a-kind holiday ornaments and enjoys Christmas when she hangs them all on her holiday tree.

Sheila was an extremely successful attorney who practiced employment litigation for large corporations. Originally from Seattle, she relocated to Fort Lauderdale in 1984 for work.

Sheila is a fan of the classics; her favorite book is David Copperfield, and her favorite movie is Gone with the Wind. However, when it comes to TV, she’s a little more edgy; her favorite TV show is Game of Thrones.

She is a lifelong dog lover and currently lives with her beautiful sheltie, Ziggy. Sheila is admired for the number of trials that she won during her career, but she is most proud of her daughter, who is a practicing veterinarian in Texas.

Wendy Howard
Secretary

wendyjhoward@comcast.net

Wendy’s parents met while playing bridge, so she’s been around the game her entire life. When not playing at the club she’s playing something else, whether it be canasta, pickle ball, or tennis. Wendy grew up in New Rochelle, New York and lived most of her adult life in the Tri-State area surrounding Manhattan. Her move to Florida was strategic recognizing that her three children would all be happy to visit her in Florida. And they do visit often, along with her two grandchildren and four grand dogs. Wendy also loves to cook, is very fond of the author Kristen Hannah and enjoys watching all medical shows (such as the Pitt) and favors dystopian TV series.

Hiking in Patagonia is on Wendy’s bucket list and her personal motto is “make good choices”. She joined the board with an altruistic attitude, wanting to support and give back to the club that she enjoys so much. She’d like people to remember her as being kind, honest and always up for a good game!

Alan Rubin
Treasurer

alanirubin@gmail.com

Unlike so many of our Club members, Alan Rubin never played cards until recently. He took our last beginner class before Covid, then played online a little bit during the pandemic, but once the club opened back up again, he jumped headfirst into our crazy pool of Bridge! When not playing cards, Alan might be working out, golfing, or just strolling with his standard poodle, Mia, along A1A in Fort Lauderdale.

Alan grew up in Philadelphia but has lived in California and New York as well. He had a varied career, first working in hospital administration then in the investment industry (on the operation side) for an international financial institution. But at a relatively early age he and his brother bought a food distribution business. The family-owned company, based in New Jersey, grew substantially until they sold it in 2007.

Alan then became very involved in a non-profit art foundation and in addition, spent his time renovating properties in Center City, Philadelphia. He eventually followed his brothers and mother to Florida, continuing his renovation addiction here in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Alan’s favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, gathering the family together for food and fellowship. He is proud of his family ties and how everyone rallies together when needed. An extended visit to Paris is on Alan’s bucket list, allowing him to spend most of the time enjoying the art museums and culture.

Sandra Siegel
Board Member
spsiegal@gmail.com

Sandra ran for the Board of Governors because she wanted to give back to the club and learn more about how it all works. She describes herself as an open book—honest, approachable, and always ready to pitch in.
Born and raised in Chicago, Sandy spent decades as a tax accountant while raising two daughters on her own. After moving to Florida for the sunshine, she planned to finally retire —but quickly got bored! A friend suggested she try bridge, and she’s been hooked ever since.
Sandy loves to travel and has been to all seven continents (Antarctica was her favorite!). When she’s not playing bridge, she’s usually working out, playing pickleball, or fixing up her new home. She’s also a big fan of medical dramas and the Chicago TV series—Med, Fire, and P.D.
As the proud mom of two and grandmother of three, Sandy is excited to bring her enthusiasm, honesty, and sense of humor to the Board.

Steve LaFredo
Board Member

Steve was born in London but grew up traveling the world with family - his father was a career military officer. However, New York (and later Texas) recurred more than any other locale. He grew up playing cards from a very early age; his aunt even created made-up family card games!
Steve went to the University of Texas, then NYU to get his MBA, which provided him the education to become an international private banker. He loved the work, allowing him to continue traveling the world as an adult.   He also spent a lot of time volunteering, mostly sharing his financial knowledge and business acumen, with the goal to “level the playing field” for women and other marginalized communities by helping them establish small business(es).
When retirement became an option, he looked around the country to find a welcoming, gay community and moved to Fort Lauderdale.  Steve decided to advance from canasta to bridge after a discussion about brain health, taking Robin Kupperman’s class in 2024.
When not playing Bridge, Steve enjoys travel, the theater, dance and music of any kind. He’s been to 118 countries to date; still on his bucket list are Scandinavia, Israel, and Antarctica.  Steve’s goal in life is to “live every day authentically” and give himself “the best life possible.”
Steve hopes to support the club using his decades of business experience and financial expertise.
