FOBC FREE LEAGUE EVENTS

In this section you will find information regarding any of our individual, pairs and teams leagues as they occur.

Teams of 4 League of (8 board matches)

Arguably the best format to play bridge, FOBC currently run a Teams League consisting of 8 board matches.

Team matches really are a great way for all players to improve, particularly the less experienced players. Here you put everything learned in the classroom into practice in a manner that feels relaxed, yet combines this, with a competitive situation.

As all league matches are only 8 boards in total, with no time constraints on how long to play any individual hand,. It means in practice, that each match should only take around 45 minutes (less in some matches). So a great way, for those players who have a busy schedule or have time constraints, to fit in a ''quick game' with friends and team-mates.

FOBC have also incorporated their 'mentoring system' into the teams league and there are now several teams 'being mentored' by some of our volunteer experts.

So why not get 3 of your, partners, friends or other FOBC members together to form a team for next season, or ask if you can join an existing team, by contacting Clive, who can also give you assistance in finding team-mates.

Pairs League of (12 board matches)

FOBC also run a Teams League consisting of 12 board matches, played in the MSN room. This was a new idea formulated by FOBC initially to get members involved and playing on BBO. So successful was the idea, in season 2 FOBC saw 32 total pairs register at the start of the season and the format is now being copied and replicated by several other bridge clubs and counties!!!

Consisting of a number of divisions, means that all pairs entering automatically come up against players of a similar standard and ability. There is promotion and relegation, currently on a '2up/2down' basis.

All league matches are only 12 boards in total, so in practice (even though there are no time constraints on how long to play any individual hand), it does makes it relatively easy to 'slot in' a quick game.

Like the teams league, scoring for the pairs league is also 'imp based'  whereby tactics and approach are more akin to a 'team based mentality
