FOUNDATION OF FORMBY BRIDGE CLUB

A preliminary meeting was held on June 6th 1961 at 14, Cross Green (Present; Mr & Mrs J McDougall, Mr & Mrs H Bradshaw, Mrs C Dixon, Mrs M Standingford, Mrs J Hunt, Mrs Bullock, Mrs M Evans & Mrs N Sherman) when it was agreed that a Bridge Club be formed and named Formby Bridge Circle. Membership fee was set at 10/6 per year with a fee of 2/6 per session, visitors 3/6 and would meet weekly on Mondays.
Mr Jack McDougall was elected Chairman, Mrs Nora Sherman to act as Treasurer and Secretary. Committee members - Mrs Cai Dixon, Mrs Jean Hunt, Mr Harold Bradshaw and Mrs E M Formby
The first meeting of Formby Bridge Circle was held at the Conservative Club, Three Tuns Lane on June 19th 1961 when there were 21 members present.. Subsequent meetings were held on June 26th - 21 present and July 3rd - 18 present. An AGM was set for July 10th.
At the first AGM on July 10th 1961 it was agreed to set up a Bank Account at the Midland Bank , Birkdale and also formulate a set of Club Rules.
Attendances - July 20th - 20 members, July 24th - 14 members, July - 16 members, August to December - 16 members on average.
On November 27th it was agreed to approach Holy Trinity Church to hold future meetings at the Bowls Pavilion.
On December 11th a Bridge Drive was held when 20 members were present and the 1st prize was won by Mr J McDougall & Mrs Camidge and the Raffle Prize by Mrs N Sherman.
In 1962 the Club joined Southport Bridge League.
