Membership and competition rules

Membership and fees
1. The Club year runs from 1 st September to 31 st August.
2. The annual subscription for Members for the year 2022 - 23 is £60. This covers
play throughout the year except for Simultaneous Pairs evenings.
3. There is an additional charge for play on Simultaneous Pairs evenings. The level
depends on the event organiser.
4. Non-members/visitors may play at the Club for a table money payment of £3 per
evening, with a maximum of five evenings per Club year. Where applicable, the
charge for Simultaneous Pairs evenings is payable in addition.
5. Any person wishing to join the Club before the 1 st March will be liable for the full
annual subscription. If they have already, in the current Club `year, paid for one
or more evenings at the visitor rate of £3 per night, all such payments will be set-
off against the annual subscription.
6. Any person joining the Club as a Member at any time during the period 1 st March
to 31 st August will be liable for 50% of the annual subscription, less any table
money paid as a visitor since 1 st March.
7. Non-members may not attend the Christmas party, nor may they speak or vote at
the AGM or any other General Meetings.
Club competitions and trophies
1. The Club competition season runs from 1 st September to 30 th June; all nights
during this period count as qualifying nights except when normal duplicate bridge
is not played (eg. the Christmas party)
2. To qualify for Club trophies, Members must have participated in at least 20
qualifying nights; this applies to both members of a pair
3. Additionally, to qualify for a pairs trophy, a pair must have played together for at
least six qualifying nights. The most improved pair trophy will be awarded to the
pair that has qualified in both the current and immediately preceding years and
has the most improved average (of at least 2%); pairs are not eligible for the most
improved pair trophy if they have won either of the other pairs trophies in the
current year or if they have won the most improved pairs trophy at any other time;
the latter does not apply if only one of the pair has previously won the most
improved pairs trophy.
4. Additionally, to qualify for an individual trophy, a Member must have played with
at least three partners during the current competition season. The most improved
individual trophy will be awarded to the Member who has qualified in both the
current and immediately preceding years and has the most improved average (of
at least 2%); Members are not eligible for the most improved individual trophy if
they have won either of the other individual trophies in the current year or if they
have won the most improved individual trophy at any other time.
