The TGR Super League is a relatively new initiative hosted by one of London's premier Bridge Clubs. ECBA has entered a team under the name of Saxons. The formation of the team was designed to give Essex County A and B squad members experience of playing against different and higher standard opposition. All A and B Squad members were invited to indicate an interest in taking part. An attempt is made to give as many as possible the experience of playing in the Super League.
After a brief showing in Division 1, Saxons have returned to Division 2 (which is now a single division).
Because of insufficient availability of players, Saxons will not be entering the TGRs Super League for the Spring 2017 season.
The results of Saxons can be found below, following the links where necessary.

After an excellent start to the season, Saxons lost their last five matches and finished 6th of 10 in the TGR's Super League Division 2.

Saxons had a good season winning six matches, drawing one (a moral victory by 1 IMP) and losing only two. While this left them a comfortable third, of ten, it was not sufficient to earn one of the two promotion places, so they will play in the second division again next term.

After a good start, the team has struggled against the stronger teams. Their last match was effectively a knock-out round against the team one place above them. They needed to win 17-13 or better but - despite leading by 19 IMPs at half time - a succession of poor results in the second half resulted in a 23-7 VP loss and relegation back to Division 2. "Someone" will write an account of life in the fast lane. Ian Moss is to be commended for a fine Butler average of +0.63 / board, sharing 11th place with a distinguished pair.
There were two teams founded by Nicole Cook in Division 2 wholly or partly constituted of Essex players:-
So, while at one time it looked as though we might have three Essex teams in division 1 next term, we are back down to none.

Saxons finished their TGRs Super League season in 3rd place after a 17-13vp win in the final match. Promotion was missed by a few VP but even a maximum win in the last match would not have helped. Nevertheless it was a very creditable performance over the season to finish third. Four members of the Saxons squad finished in the top ten in the overall Butler IMP ranking out of the 86 players in the 10 teams taking part in the Division.
