In Memoriam Frank Morrison

Frank Morrison

I first met Frank in 2004 when I started playing at Mountnessing Bridge Club.  It didn’t take long to develop respect for Frank as a player and as a person.  I don’t recall how it happened but we gravitated into a bridge partnership that “clicked” straight away and endured, although we both split our bridge time with other players.  However, it was always with a particular pleasure that I anticipated partnering Frank.  I knew I was in for an enjoyable game, not just because of Frank’s expert skill but also because of his calm and sympathetic manner.  We enjoyed success at the club and in various Essex events and were privileged to represent Essex in inter-county matches.  Frank played for the county with several different partners in the Eastern Counties League A Division and also represented Essex at the highest level in the Tollemache Cup.

The number of leading players in the county that wanted to partner Frank demonstrated he was “the players’ player” both for his bridge ability and the pleasure of his company.

Frank always made a point of asking after my family and chatted to us when he called at our home on the way to a bridge game.  I recall Frank telling me “Family comes first” when I had to cancel a bridge session because of a change in domestic plans.

The many friends Frank made in the ECBA will miss him profoundly.

My wife, Jacqui, joins me in sending heart-felt sympathy to Frank’s family.
