You don’t always need to have good TRUMPS

Assuming you do not receive a trump lead, can you work out the MINIMUM trump holding that declarer and dummy could hold in order to make a suit slam contract?

The answer is the A Q 10 opposite the 7.

The contract is 6 Spades by South.

Assuming the opening lead is not a trump, 6 Spades can be made on any other lead.

Declarer will cash their six top red suit tricks, Ace King of Clubs and ruff a Club with the 7 of Spades.

Declarer will now lead a red card and ruff it in dummy with a Spade.

Declarer can now exit dummy and wait to make the Ace and Queen of Spades.

Declarer makes 6 red tricks, Ace, King of Clubs and their 4 Spades.
