Competition Rules

  KAY BORE TROPHY

This is for the pair who has the best average over the year.  To qualify a pair must take part in a minimum of one third of the available qualifying evenings to the nearest whole number ie if there are 50,51,52 evenings then the qualifying number will be 17, but if only 47,48,49 it will be 16. The season will  run from 1st December to two weeks before Xmas Party.
Games which involve a break-up of the partnership will not count, nor will singles or Teams of Four.

In 2016 the above rules were amended as follows :  The winners are the pair who have the best average over the year.  To qualify a pair must play tegether a minimum of 15 times and in addition that   pair must have between them attended the club a minimum of 40 occasions (not necessarily with the same partner) during the accepted competition year.  The last requirement may be waived by the Committee  in exceptional circumstances e.g. illness or extensive hall closures.  The competition will run one week prior to presentation trophy evening (Christmas party night) and continue until 2 weeks before the following presentation evening.

  HANDICAP PAIRS

One night event probably in October.  Each pair is given a % based on the previous year's performance.  Anyone either above or below 50% mark will have their handicap  either added to or deducted from their score on the night.  A Pair must play a minimum of 3 times during the year.

In 2016 it was decided to use the Kay Bore results from the previous year to determine everyone's handicap. It was also agreed at the AGM on 10th April, 2017 that the handicap will be + or - 50%.  Anyone not quoted will have their individual handicaps added together.

INDIVIDUAL CONTEST SHIELD discontinued in 2015.

This shield is won by the Player who accumulates the best average score, having played not less than 25 games between 1st December and 30th November, and having played with more than one partner. In the event of a tie, the award will go to the player who has played with the most partners. All other club competitions will be excluded from this averaging.

(Remember if you win the Kay Bore Trophy you cannot win this shield in the same year.)

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION (most improved) discontinued in 2015. Replaced by Pairs Handicap.

This will follow the same time scale as for the Kay Bore Trophy, i.e. 1st December to 30th November. It will take the average of each member's score through the period, based on a minimum of 25 games excluding other competitions and Sim. pairs and compare it with their average for the previous year. The member who has the most increase will be the winner.  Discontinued in 2015.  Replaced by Pairs Handicap.
