  General Rules

1         NAME

 

The club shall be called the Eaton Bray Taverners Bridge Club

2         OBJECTS

To provide facilities for playing Bridge for the residents of the villages where the Focus magazine is circulated. To provide an environment conducive to stimulating novice and improver players drawn from a wider catchment area.  To employ the funds of the Club in such a manner as the Management Committee may deem to be in the best interests of the Club; (regard being given that the Club is a non-profit organisation).

3         AFFILIATIONS

Eventually it is hoped that the Club will become a member of the Bedfordshire Bridge Association and of the English Bridge Union.

4         MEMBERSHIP

The total membership shall be restricted to such members as the Management Committee shall decide, regard being given to the playing facilities available. New members must be proposed and seconded by existing members and approved by the Management Committee.

5          VISITORS

Any person may visit and play at the Club with the consent of a Committee member, up to four times in any season. The number of these visits may be extended at the discretion of the Management Committee.

 6         FEES

The amount of all fees shall be decided by members at the A.G.M. Each member shall be required to pay an annual subscription. Each member shall be required to pay table money each time they play bridge at the club unless they are playing under a host system for the benefit of the club or as a non-playing tournament director.

7         MANAGEMENT

The Club shall be managed by a Management Committee, consisting of:- Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Tournament Director and two committee members. Members of the Management Committee shall retire annually and may offer themselves for re-election if they so wish.

8          DUTIES OF THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

To administer the affairs of the Club according to its constitution. To determine the manner in which Bridge Meetings of the Club are conducted. To appoint a member or members who shall be responsible for the supervision of the Bridge Meeting. To formulate any necessary rules for the running of the Club and of competitions.

 

9         NOMINATIONS

Nominations for the Management Committee may be made by any member of the Club, each nomination having a proposer and seconder. All nominations shall be in writing and reach the Secretary seven days before the A.G.M.

10       GENERAL MEETINGS

The Annual General Meeting shall be held in January or as soon as possible thereafter, at a time to be decided. Notice of all General Meetings shall be given to Club members at least fourteen days prior to the date fixed.

Any member may bring forward a motion at the A.G.M. provided that notice in writing is given to the Secretary.

11       ALTERATIONS OF THE CONSTITUTION

No alterations shall be made to the Constitution except at the A.G.M. by a resolution carried by at least two thirds of the members of the meeting.

12       WINDING UP

In the event of the Management Committee deciding to wind-up the Club, then after all the debts of the Club have been paid, the surplus, if any, after selling off the Club’s assets shall be distributed in equal shares to members who have been fully paid up for at least four weeks.

 13      SMOKING

The Club shall operate a policy of no smoking.

14      REFRESHMENTS

Coffee, tea and fruit cordial drinks shall be provided at extra charge. Members shall ensure that the drinks area is kept tidy and that their crockery is washed up afterwards. The Management Committee may allow this to be done on a profitable basis provided these criteria are met.

15      COURSES

The Management Committee may agree to finance the course cost but not other expenses of members who attend Tournament Direction courses for the intended benefit of the Club.
