Kay Downes Trophy for Novice and Beginners - 2023 Results
We had a great turnout for the Kay Downes Trophy for Novice and Beginners live at the Templeogue Bridge Centre on Friday 21st April - with a good mixture of both Novices and Beginners. The Kay Downes Trophy is the first major competition that many bridge players take part in - the start of their competitive bridge journey - so there were lots of nerves, tension and excitement! This year all the entrants took it in their stride and really enjoyed their first major competition.
A big thank you to Brideen Downes, Kay's daughter, who was there to present the trophy and say a few words about Kay - with also an encouraging message for all the Novices. And thanks to all of the DSR committee who contributed to the organisation on the night, not to mention our DSR President, Fiona O'Gorman, who also acted as TD.

4 Fun Teams Qualifier |
 |
Pictured above Winners of 4 Fun Teams qualifier Civil Service Club with DSR President Fiona O'Gorman, Mike Gowie (master), Ian Kingston (novice), Eddie Payne (Inter A) and Maura King (Inter B)
Milltown Golf Bridge club hosted our 4 Fun Teams qualifier on Monday 23rd Jan 2023 and their President Edel Dunleavy welcomed everyone before the competition. The playing room was very comfortable with tea and coffee provided by the host club during play, a big THANK YOU to our hosts!
CBAI donated a lovely gift to the novice players on the team, most of whom were playing in their first competition outside of their home club.
This is a very popular event in the region, teams consist of a master playing with a novice player and an inter A playing with an inter B player all competing for the chance to represent the region in the National 4Fun Teams Final on May 27th 2023 (venue to be confirmed). We had a great entry of 20 teams and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event superbly directed by Martin Brady.
Lots of pictures of prize winners on the night with DSR President Fiona O'Gorman.

Regional Pairs 2022 Winners |
Regional Pairs 2022 Results
We were delighted to hold the Regional Pairs Qualifiers live at the Templeogue Bridge Centre on Saturday 3rd December. The numbers were slightly reduced this year, post-pandemic, with 22 pairs for the Quin Cup, 17 pairs for the Joe Moran Cup, and six for the Duffy Cup, but we hope to see these number increase again over the coming years. These events were the qualifiers for the National Pairs Competition taking place next year on 1st - 2nd April, 2023 at the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon, Co Clare. DSR will be in touch with all the qualifying pairs in advance.
The event turned out to be a bit of a family affair with the Quin Cup being won by husband and wife pair Bríd and Terry; the Joe Moran Cup won by brothers Aindrias Ó Caoimh and Donal O'Keefe, and the Duffy Cup won by nephew and uncle, Sam and Michael Connolly!
A big thank you to all those who played and well done to the winners - it's great to be back at the real bridge table again!

Fiona O'Gorman, President DSR, presenting the Cup to winning team members Thomas, BJ, Bríd and Terry
The Carroll Cup and Paul O'Reilly Trophy took place last weekend at the Regent Bridge Club, which was a hive of activity between both competitions. It was our first competition using our new contactless payment system, which went smoothly. We had an excellent turnout, and reducing the Carroll Cup to a one-session event turned out to be a popular decision resulting in nine teams taking part, with nine teams also playing in the Paul O'Reilly. Huge thanks again to the Regent Bridge Club for hosting, and to our TD John Royds for running smooth and efficient competitions. Liz Ann O'Reilly and DSR President, Fiona O'Gorman, made presentations to the winning teams. We would like to thank all the teams that entered - and it is great to see us all back at the bridge table again.

Dublin South Region AGM 2022 |
 |
Pictured: Newly elected DSR President, Fiona O'Gorman with Dermot O'Brien, Chief Executive of CBAI and outgoing DSR President, Niamh Gormally
Dublin South Region AGM 2022
The Dublin South Region AGM took place on Friday 27th May at Templeogue Bridge Centre, where both the Secretary and Treasurer reported on the past year's activities. Dermot O'Brien, Chief Executive of the CBAI, also addressed the meeting. In her outgoing President's report, Niamh Gormally told us how much she enjoyed her year as President before handing over the Chain of Office to newly-elected President, Fiona O'Gorman.
Fiona, an active member of three Dublin South Bridge Clubs, including her home club Railway Union where she has served as President and TD, addressed the meeting about how she is looking forward to her year as President and getting back to visiting and meeting clubs in the region. This will be an exciting and challenging year for Fiona and the DSR Committee as bridge clubs face the return to live bridge, and with plans to return to events such as the Fanagan League. We wish Fiona the best of luck in her Presidency for the next bridge season.
The officers of the Committee were elected as follows:
President: Fiona O'Gorman
Deputy President: Teresa Gavin
Hon Secretary: Bríd Kemple
Hon Treasurer: Ciara Gleeson
Ex-officio: Niamh Gormally
Ordinary Members: John Coulter, Deirdre Fallon, Moya Murphy, Sue Power, Marcin Rudzinski
